Individual Reflection: My Creative Thinking Profile
Individual Reflection: My Creative Thinking ProfileLukita WilsonWalden UniversityJanuary 17, 2016My Creative ProfileCreativity is thought to be the most important leadership quality for an individual. According to Prichard (2013), creativity is a fundamental trait that makes us all human and also as one that can be enhanced and grown with practice. Our creative thinking derives on how we think about the problems and the challenges that come up with various solutions. Creativity is an ability that implies that all people are creative and the level of your creative ability can be enhanced (Puccio, 2013). There are four different creative thinking styles which are clarifier, ideator, developer, and implementer. I have identified my creative thinking profile as a clarifier. According to Puccio, Mance, & Murdock (2011), clarifiers have a great deal of energy for, uncovering facts that determine the most productive way of defining the task or problem. Clarifiers are good at examining the details, analyzing situations and diagnosing problems (Puccio, Mance, & Murdock, 2011). Clarifiers are cautious about leaping to conclusions or solutions, which requires them to have details and the access to information to ask questions (Puccio, Mance, & Murdock, 2011).
Clarifiers approach challenges by researching and obtaining the facts and background to search for a greater insight. At my current role, I am a Customer Care Coordinator, in the customer service department within my organization. Recently the supervisor, enlisted myself and the other coordinator to create a training manual for current and future employees who might want to perform our duties. Developing the training manual is beneficial to provide structure and content for employees.  During this assignment, I found myself researching various books to see what areas were needed more information. I obtain processes and procedures that are required to be conducted during this position. I asked my supervisor various questions to make sure we were in agreement on what was needed. At this current position, I am much focused, organized, and use my creativity to discover new directions to explore. This current assignment allowed me to gain an understanding of how I use my creative thinking into use. As a clarifier, my patience, curiosity, and persistence allowed me to a better view of the task at hand. As a colleague, I have an understanding and respect during collaboration with individuals with similar and different creative thinking styles. According to Puccio, Mance, & Murdock (2011), to varying degrees all teams analyze situations, identify opportunities, address predicaments, produce ideas, hone solutions and implement their best thoughts. It’s important to gain the concept that everyone you collaborate will have different creative thinking styles, but they are needed to produce various perceptions and group dynamics. According to Prichard (2013), a good facilitator will recognize when a team is relying too heavily on its thinking preferences and then be able to bring the group back to the task at hand.
