That little hole in the center filled with all that creamy whiteness, is what a real angel food cake should be filled with. A recipe for strawberries, cream cheese and angel food cake is defiantly more than just a traditional strawberry short cake, it is far sweeter, more filling and it last longer; the sweet, decadent taste of the cream cheese melts in your mouth and leaves you with a wonderful creamy taste you are sure to enjoy and remember. If this strawberry and cream cheese, angel cake had a name it would be, The heavenly angel cake. This recipe has been passed down with love from generations of women in my family, always turning mens hearts and stomachs. Remembering when I was younger and my mother would be teaching me the process of baking this recipe, she would talk of her younger days and her memories baking this cake for her special someone. Often allowing me a glimpse into her past.
The heavenly angel cake is a dessert, with many hidden secrets. It appears round in shape, resembling a donut and is covered in creamy, white, fluffy soft frosting; having a little hole in the center filled with the same creamy goodness. The special smell of the fluffy angel food cake mixed with the soft scent of strawberries and cream cheese rise to your nose. When you cut the cake to take a piece of it, the cake usually falls apart a little, due to the soft touch of the knife slicing into all the wonderful, sexy ingredients.
Strawberries cut up with small bites of soft, fluffy angel food cake, smothered in the creamy, white cream cheese frosting come falling out of the cake and onto your plate, dipping with frosting, yelling at you “eat me, you know you want to!” Taking a bite leaves your mouth watering for more and theres a wonderful taste of something that you just cant name. Its creamy, sweet, with a hint of lemon juice? Yes, lemon juice is what gives this cake its thrill, mixed with the condensed milk and cream cheese, it is a heavenly dream in your mouth. One piece of this cake and your full, but you know you still want more, but unlike traditional strawberry short cakes, whereas the short cake packages usually come six to a pack are gone after everyone in your family has had one, this big, round, donut shaped cake still has plenty more to go around, with tons of strawberries still left as well. The cake is able to be store in the refrigerator for as long as your heart desires, or as long as you can fight the urge not to eat it all.
When I was younger and my mother would make this cake, it would last in our house for three to four days before it would be totally eaten, now when I make this cake it usually only last two days because my husband loves this recipe. This is his favorite cake in the entire world and he doesnt get it very often, so when I make it, he eats it fast. I can remember a time when I had just finish putting the frosting on the cake and I cut us each a piece, after we had finished my husband asked for another and kept eating piece after piece and finished the cake in one sitting.
Traditional strawberry short cake is the closest example that I can give for heavens angel cake, except as good as short cake is, it is lacking so much in taste, quality and it isnt much worth remembering. Traditional strawberry short cake consist of usually a small round piece of some type of short bread or angel food cake, covered with a mixture of strawberries cut up in a strawberry flavored syrup, topped with whipped cream. The two are very similar in that they contain some main ingredients, angel food cake and strawberries, but are different in that they are prepared differently and there are far many more ingredients needed for the heavens angel cake. Heavens angel cake is made with love, patience and a wanting for the perfect, sweetest dessert. Short cake is usually a really quick dessert, thrown together really fast.
The heavens angel food cake calls for an angel food cake box mix, one package of strawberries, a package of cream cheese, and one can of condensed milk and two teaspoons of lemon juice. A tube baking pan will also be required for baking this heavenly wonderful cake. First you will need to follow the directions on the angel food cake box, preparing the angel food cake in the tube baking pan, having it baked and cooled completely, placing the tube cake pan face down on a plate, with the points holding the pan upright, so that air may cool the cake. While the angel food cake is cooling, this is a great time to wash and cut up your strawberries.
