Claude Monet was a famous painter that was born on november 14th, 1840 in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, Paris, France. During Monet’s childhood he moved at age five to Le Havre a town in northern France, where his father was a successful grocer that soon turned to shipping. Monet’s mother died when he was only fifteen. Meanwhile, Monet would skip school so he could go walk along beaches and cliffs. He started to draw caricatures in spare time and he sold them for twenty francs apiece, and he managed to even save a good bit of money from his drawings. Monet went through two wives during his lifetime. His first wife was Camille Doncieux, they were together from 1870-1879. His second wife was Alice Hoschede, and they were together from 1892-1911. But while he was with his second wife Alice, that was when he found the place where he would officially start his career. The house he bought in Giverny, France for him and Alice was where he finally found beauty in nature and land. ‘‘My garden is my most beautiful masterpiece. I work at my garden all the time and with love. What I need most are flowers. Always. My heart is forever in Giverny, perhaps I owe it to the flowers that I became a painter.’’-said by Monet famously. This quote by him, I think shows that he really loves nature and owes it to nature that he became what he was and still is today, a painting GENIUS, or in my eyes he is. Monet thought that form and light was more important than realism, which led to impressionism to be made. That was one reason why I chose Monet because he wasn’t trying to be exact with his paintings, he put them in his point of view and how he liked them. Monet used oil paint for the most part, but he did also use some pastels. He also had a sketchbook for drawings. Even his colors were specific, he didn’t use brown or earth colors on his palette, and by 1886 black was also gone. Monet eventually had gotten diagnosed with cataracts and after
