Summary of Cupid & Psyche (II)                              Unit 5Psyche wandering everywhere with no distance and trying to find Venus to soften her, fortunately psyche finds anger Venus.Now she comes to Venus. Venus is laughing a loud and scorns psyche for the husband died of the burning wound caused by her.Venus says to her that she is ugly and simple therefore no one would like to marry her except by the most diligent and sore tests and service.Venus provides a great quantity of the smallest of the seeds such as wheat, poppy and millet and bids psyche depart them by that night. Psyches mind is in a maze at first because of Venus cruelty but she is pitied by the tiniest creatures such as ants they cry to each other and waves of them labors separating and dividing until every kind of seed lay ordered.Venus cannot believe it so she became very angry.She gave psyche a crust of bread and bids her sleep on the ground until her beauty reduced day by day as Venus wished for.Cupid is imprisoned in her own chamber and still suffering from his wound.Venus is happy about the way things go on.Venus chooses another task for psyche which is very dangerous.Going to a river-side where there are sheep with fleeces of gold.At first she wishes to end all her pain by throwing herself into the stream but as she bends over the water a green reed speaks to her that things are not as bad as her thinks. Psyche is prevented to drown herself but she cannot approach the sheep because they seem fierce. For this she waits till near evening she can gather the gold fleeces hanging on the sharp pointed branches growing there. Psyche is able to take her cruel mistress the shining fleece. Venus receives the valuable gift with an evil smile and she cannot accept it was her own job.        Again her new mission to take black water falls from the waterfall at the top of a hill. The rocks are steep and slippery on all sides and the fast falling waters doesnt let anyone take water except a winged creature such as an eagle can carry a flask full of water with his powerful beak. Venus accuses psyche of her stupidity that she does her best and she brings upon herself in order to meet her very dear husband, cupid.Venus decides to give psyche a box and bids her carry it to the underworld where Proserpine lives. Psyche should ask Proserpine fill the box with some of her beauty. Psyche tells about Venus that she needs some beauty since she is exhausted from taking care of her sick son. So that this attempted girl goes on for the road to Hades. Psyche gets her guide in a tower for getting to Proserpine palace.
