A code of conduct is necessary to inform students about the rules of engagement in the academic environment and attempt to preserve academic integrity and prevent infractions such as plagiarism. They allow students to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with a university’s ethical standards, or if they’re going to, be guided by them. Students who are under the jurisdiction of the Texas Department of Law and Safety on a Title I or III student status are eligible to take an alternative course of study upon completion of one semester of an independent program at the University of Texas System of Higher Education. Any course of study conducted by the Undergraduate Program at the University of Texas System of Higher Education will not qualify as a degree at the University of Texas – Austin or may be taken in a specialized area of law or training.
