Founded in 1969 in New Orleans in the aftermath of an automobile accident during World War I, S.W.A.K.E and its staff members created the S.W.A.K.E restaurant in 1981 of family style food, with its motto “Cannabis” as one of its main features.

As a stand of this and other businesses in a multi-brand approach, S.W.A.K.E served as a joint venture of S.W.A.K.E and KKK Corporation, a Chinese corporation. KKK and S.W.A.K.E also have a partnership with S.K’s in China.

The S.W.A.K.E restaurant is owned by S.W.A.K.E in its entirety. The original building, as well as its surroundings and the surrounding area of it constitute a part of S.W.A.K.E’s multi-brand strategy. It is situated in a historic place located in Central/South Africa which is one of three main cultural hubs in Africa: KwaZulu Natal, Johannesburg.
