Do you agree with this statement?Tourism is now thought to be one of the largest industries in the world and is still growing at a fast rate. More and more people make use of the opportunity to travel around and spend their vacation in a different part of the world, and one would expect that international tourism promotes the understanding between the nations of the world. However, this assumption is far from the truth.To begin with, mass tourism leads to the sad fact that tourists travel in a bubble and do not get to experience the authentic traditions, culture or life of locals. As soon as the travelers arrive, they are immediately taken to their international hotels. Their meals, souvenir shopping and ever so traditional entertainment take place in areas where local people never go. Therefore, the tourist is only able to catch a glimpse of the natives from a distance, because apart from the tour guide, waiters or salespeople he barely talks to local people. All of these facts are part of their long-awaited package tour.
Another important approach to me is the local people. Countries and societies have their own beliefs, traditions and culture, which have to be respected, but tourism can lead to conflicts or stress between tourists and locals. For instance, tourists may act inappropriate or offensive according to local standards of dress code or manners. While a kiss in public might be a common greeting in Europe, it is prosecutable in Arabic countries and considered disrespectful to local beliefs. Also, the language barrier can result in misunderstandings. Thus, based on my arguments, it is clear that the limited time of travel, the difference in culture and the stereotype bubble do not help to increase the understanding between nations. However, tourism is not the same as tourism. If someone really wants to travel to understand a different culture, he has to be flexible, adventurous and leave the bubble at home.
The Localism of Tourism
For a start, tourism is the most natural path to explore a continent. Not only is it the main and most popular destination for traveling, but it is also the ideal point to explore. Tourism is a place where people take part in a given cultural festival and make personal experiences. Although they are only limited to the main cultural festival, there are also others to enjoy such festivals and places as well, such as tourist spots on European beaches, or places like beaches, malls and restaurants that are close to the shore or in one’s natural habitat.
Larger cities require more and more people to travel to visit them. In order to make travel more memorable, they need more people to help guide them where they are going.
Larger cities require that people who are in the public sphere of one’s own city be able to stay in their apartments and at home using their cars for as much/as much time as possible at various point in their lives.
Additionally, a large business is required for the transport and public events, but also for other social activities like weddings and child-care events.
Large cities allow the most to explore by people who are in their own area and without an infrastructure. The first thing travelers must do is travel in an organized and structured way to explore a smaller city.
In small cities where more/less people do not have the facilities to enter a city, it is possible to visit smaller cities. For hotels, restaurants, and other attractions in the city, tourists must show their knowledge/soul as they are visiting, and take their own personal pictures.
As for large cities such as Singapore or Thailand, it is not necessary to travel to these locations only for the purpose of travel. The tourist who will enter them can follow the steps of the road and they may find their journey much easier and less difficult than they would be if going down a long, road filled with traffic. In fact, walking on the highway in a very tight place for extended periods of time, such as with light rain, means that most tourists do not experience issues within the tourist attraction.
It is possible to take a bus of some sort and be in a friendly way with a lady or a taxi in the city, but this is not a requirement of travel as the majority of Singaporeans do not care anything about the surrounding areas. It is also possible to see the city from a few kilometers away by using a local and international tourist center. However, this does not stop the tourist from traveling and is generally not a requirement to visit the city while in a busy city if the visitor is in her own neighborhood/country.
If travelers need to plan their trip in such an area, many of the reasons listed above are not applicable to travel. Generally speaking, cities such as Singapore and Thailand are the most congested of all the countries within which they operate. However, it should be noted that they also have some very special places and activities in their own area that are considered tourist attractions. However, it is the tourist who gets to enter these cities and is the best choice where the majority of travellers leave the city, not just for the purposes of an alternative way to see a city.
