The Importance of Accountability of Sensitive Items
The importance of accountability of sensitive items are really important to the US Army because worst comes to worst it could harm you, your family and/or your country. The US Army and all the other branches in the US military keep sensitive items out of the wrong hands. The reason why it is important to keep accountability of sensitive items is because it plays an important role in OPSEC, the accountability itself, and the responsibility of having sensitive items.
In the army accountability is everything. The definition of accountability is an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions. You have to have accountability for everything you do formation ceremonies to the items that you carry on you every day I’m going to give you 5 examples of when and why accountability would be very important example one having accountability of your soldiers if you are a NCO you always need to know where your soldier are. For example, fort Bragg is a rapid deployment base and if your platoon gets called up to be on GRF and your soldiers are not where they are supposed to be then it is not only your ass its everyone in the platoon. You need to keep accountability off your soldiers for pt because if they have a random piss test and your soldier I not there they need to know why that is examples of when a nco would need to keep accountability of their soldiers
is very important. Losing government property leads to wasteful spending along with your chain of command’s time. It is also important because with items like ID cards it also controls access to sensitive areas such as, getting on and off post.
The importance of keeping positive control of a military I.D, based on my situation the sensitive item will be a Common Access Card, and how it Hinders the army’s OPSEC also known as Operations Security. I won’t sit here and say losing my i.d card was completely out of my reach but things happen I’m only human. But I can assure you that it won’t happen again. But Losing a Military Identification Card has a lot of downside. There is no good in losing a Military Identification Card regardless of the situation and detail. Accountability in the military is extremely important, more so, Accountability of government property into the wrong hands you are therefore giving that power to someone who shouldn’t be on post, which can put other soldiers, contractors, and military families in danger. Along with putting them at risk, you are leaving government property at risk of thief and/or vandalism. There are also very important documents and equipment that if fallen into the wrong hands can be problematic to Operations Security. Lack of accountability shows a lack of responsibility, and there is no room in the military for irresponsibility, we are all responsible for each other’s lives and well being down range and it all starts with our gear .
