So what are we looking for in our lives? And what is the thing that we can never let go of? Lastly, what is the reason that we dont want to lite go of the world? Because we are human, we have choice of living our own life. We can choose to hate the mindset and choose to accept something that is not against our will under the laws. We learn and distinguish between the true and false. We make our choice between do or not do. We decide to live a decent live or to live in a world that is off code or isolated. We decide that its time for us to create a family because we are longing for love, we have hope and dreams in the future. We live for the present and future, but not death.
Yet, we are selfish and want to have more time to pursue our goal, to spend more days with our love ones, and here, in the book Never Let Me Go, we create clones to fulfill our desire.
In Never Let Me Go,Ishiguro, creates a society after world war two that in England people grow and raise clones in order to replace their damage organs. Theres a type of school that raise these clones and they give those clones a place to live, a place to build friendship and even to have sex. They give them education, and holds gallery to let them stand out from the crows, to make their lives seem valuable. They give them the chance to exchange valuable thing, the chance to present themselves to the outside world, which that exchange and that presenting represent the freedom in their lives, that they can actually have free well in doing things. However, these are all the false illusion that the school give clones and let them believe that they can actually hold some kind of control of their bodies. They have freedom to choose that they love, and they have freedom to have some basic physical desires, sex. But underlying the lives they have, there is actually nothing that they can hold on to.
There is really nothing after all that they can take away and can keep, share, or spend with. They have hopes and dreams and wish one day they can achieve these goals, but the society reject them to have any kinds of hope by having rumor about whoever ran outside of Hailsham will die terribly, by isolating any media information with the school and the kids, by curly reject tommys are work and tell him that there is actually no art work at all, that those are world and gallery are all just for proofing that those clones actually have a soul that they are not too much different form a normal human. They have knowledge, but there is no place they can use those knowledge. They can draw great art works, but there is never an actual gallery that took their art work for people to look into that beauty in within. Far from the reality, there is actually no one really cares about them because they are not real, they are not real human, they are just clones, whose only hope and dreams that they can actually get and hold on to is, to donate their organ and to sacrifice themselves for a better living life.
However, those better living life is just another life that have more freedom to love, to hope, to dream the impossible, yet they are selfish and only care about themselves. And that is why Ishiguro wrote this book, to let us see how ugly we are. We tend to do things that look good and sound excellent,
