Immigrants and You: a commentary on the state of the nations rapid unsustainable growth
By: Alex woolen
The United States was formed by immigrants who left their native countries in search for better, more prosperous lives. In the nations early years people were encouraged to immigrate to the United States because of its still seemingly unlimited potential for growth. The United States got stronger with every new person that came to it. Today illegal immigrants pose a serious threat to the United States already floundering economy. Every year thousands if not millions of people from other countries sneak into the United States in search of work. What these people do not realize is that the United States cannot support them. We have already reached critical mass and cannot continue to live our well-to-do lives if more people continue coming to our country.
That being said, I do not believe that immigration has to be the huge problem that it has been blown into. I disagree with the new plan to remove all of the 11 million illegal immigrants that are currently living in the United States. This would cost more than if we were to just let the immigrants stay here and so is just counterproductive and quite frankly, silly. Besides, immigrants both illegal and legal provide a vital service to the United States; they fill lower paid jobs that many Americans might not. And while this isnt very good for the immigrants, it helps the United States out a great deal. The main problem is that illegal immigrants do not pay taxes. If they did then the United States would have a strong, functional, lower class contributing to its economy.
I do think that the restrictions on how people get in to the United States should be tightened. The borders between the United States, Mexico, and especially Canada should be made more secure. Bigger, electrified fences are the order of the day! There should also be packs of wild dogs set loose to roam the borders. This strategy has been proved effective in countless instances in backyards, junkyards and other places that may require protecting, what Im proposing is that the United States put this tried and true method to use in a large-scale manner. If the right advertising campaign distributes the right propaganda to possible illegal immigrants than there dont even need to be very many dogs, the very idea of giant starving, menacing dogs alone should provide enough of a deterrent to people that live in Canada, and other neighboring countries to affect a sharp decrease in the numbers of illegal aliens from these countries.
We should approach the idea of legal immigrants with a completely different attitude then that of illegal immigrants. There should be some kind of yearly quota of people
