So, should this Act of 1987 be enforced or not? It is my opinion that minimum drinking age of 21 that our society accepted should not be lowered. The following arguments will show the base of my view on this question.
It is widely known that âa majority of college students under this age [21] consume alcohol⊠in an irresponsible manner. This is because drinking by these youth is seen as an enticing âforbidden fruitâ, a âbadge of rebellion against authorityâ and a symbol of âadulthoodââ (1). Therefore, in my judgment, these giddiness, frivolity and irresponsibility come from an inner wish of everyoneâs ego to prove that the Universe is circling around that particular human being and to prove that nobody else ever has right to tell that person what to do anymore. In addition, it is marked out that the percentage of driving accidents involving usage of alcohol has declined since the 1987 law of new MDA was nationally approved and enforced. However, âthe decrease in drinking and driving problems [is] the result of many factors and not just the rise in purchase age or the decreased per capita consumption. These include: education concerning drunk driving, designated driver programs, increased seat belt and air bag usage, safer automobiles, lower speed limits, free taxi services from drinking establishments, etc.â (1).
