Community policing is defined as a philosophy that guides police management style and operational strategies, it emphasizes establishment of police-community partnerships and a problem-solving approach that is responsive to the needs of the community (Police Department University of California-Irvine, 2015). The primary purpose of community policing helps build the relationship between the community and the police department itself. Many people have different views and opinions about community policing, but the overall idea is a good one, as long as its implemented correctly.Community Policing Community policing deals with the building of; community partnerships, implementing community policing, and problem solving (discoverpolicing.org, 2015). If we as a community would like to clean up our streets we have to be willing to cooperate with the police. This is where the whole problem solving comes into play. If we want to lessen the crime and feel safe within our community we have to be willing to stand as one and not let the assaults, drugs, and thefts go unpunished. The stronger police presence we show throughout the community the better relationship we build with our police and sheriff department. It will take an effort from everyone to help stop crime, problem solving is the next conquest.
Most crimes aren’t reported because many people are scared of repercussions from gangs or murderers. The crime rate would probably lessen if more people reported the crimes and stood up for what’s right and not look the other way. The first year I lived within this community there were reports of crimes on a daily basis. I would have to roam my house till late at night just to feel secure and make sure nothing happened. A community must stick together and protect one another if they want to ever feel safe and prevent bad things from happening within the community.Community Policing Policy Community policing is built around the foundation of trust when it comes to police and the communities. The policy itself is based off of neighborhood watch programs, neighborhood substations, and foot patrol (Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy, 2015). The policy itself is a great idea but needs to be enforced more assertively. It’s not alright that innocent people die on a daily basis because the presence of police officers doesn’t exist. There needs to be more cooperation from within the community and more police officers involving themselves. Everyone has to work together for this program or policy to work.
