Social Implications in Education
A:Iris    B:Poppy    C:Tony    D:SarahOpening:A: Yeah, actually there are many perspectives of the social implications about virtual reality , and I want to start with the social implications in education .B:Ok,tell us something more.A:Well,In general, school students, university students, as well as teachers, have difficulties in understanding concepts related to celestial phenomena and astronomy. To put it anther way ,most first grade primary school students cannot understand the rotation of the planets. And students are not usually able to realize concepts such as relative sizes and distances, or that the Sun is at the center of our solar system. Moreover, knowledge related to astronomy is not enriched after finishing secondary education.C:yeah,it is really a tough problem, but I still don’t know the connection with virtual reality.A:Ok,The connection is that professors are seeking new tools that can contribute to a better understanding of the aforementioned concepts. In this context, virtual reality can be an important tool, since it is a 3D simulation, where students come in contact with artificial environments, which give them the ability to discover and use knowledge.D:I see ,you mean virtual reality can be a useful tool to make students get a better understanding, right?A:Absolutely,And studies examine the use of a 3D virtual environment for teaching solar systems concepts. The objectives were to examine the environment from a technical perspective and whether the learning objectives were achieved. So experts divide randomly selected students into two groups. The first group used the application of 3D virtual reality , while the second group was given the same cognitive material, but by using an online presentation program. The results are considered satisfactory. Well, both groups showed significant progress in knowledge acquisition, but the first group had better overall results. To give you more details interactive 3D solutions have been shown to increase students attention levels by 92% and increase test scores by 35% ,which is better than the first group.B:Yep,it did prove that virtual reality can be beneficial to get a better understanding of knowledge. But it would be interesting to carry out a similar survey that would include a larger sample in order to have more concrete results.A:That’s right, more samples mean more accurate,so if a similar survey that would include more samples could be more convinced.B:I couldn’t agree more.Well, and I heard a company named EON.A:Yep,I know that company.B:That’s good.EON Reality is the worlds leading interactive 3D solutions provider for business and education based on Virtual Reality technology. And EON Reality’s Virtual 3D Learning solutions are transforming education by bringing interactive 3D technologies to classrooms of all levels.

A:Well,to add more to your point, the virtual reality solutions include providing a 360 degree immersive experience and 3D augmented reality glasses for rocket engineers.,or using a glasses-free 3D face tracking laptop application to help students virtually learn anatomy. C:So what you two saying is that this EON company’s interactive 3D solutions are really useful for learning, such as anatomy. D:wow~the virtual reality can make study more easier, that’s wonderful.A:That’s right ,but it still has some disadvantages. For example, the virtual reality can damage human beings’ imagination in some way, because every time we just see the real thing by using virtual reality technology instead of using our imagination, and our imagination will be worse and worse, because we have no chance to exercise.B:That makes sense, virtual reality can benefit us a lot in education, but also can hurt us .A:Yeah, that is what I mean, and do you have any comments?C:Well,in my opinion, although they can harm us in some way,it benefit us more.A:I’m not sure ,but I agree with you, because the virtual reality’s advantages are overweight than the disadvantages in current society.Well,so do you know other social implications of virtual reality? D:Yes,I know one.As one of the biggest adopters of virtual reality is Healthcare. Its social implications include surgery simulation, psychotherapy , robotic surgery and skills training. One example of surgery simulation is the Human Simulation System which enables doctors, nurses and other medical personnel to interact with others in an interactive environment. They engage in training scenarios in which they have to interact with a patient but within a 3D environment only. In brief, it provides an immersive experience for participants which measures their emotions via a series of sensors. The main feature of this system is force feedback as the surgeon needs to be able to gauge the amount of pressure to use when performing a delicate procedure.  Personally ,this can largely removes the need for invasive procedures or surgery.
