Distinguish Between Negative and Positive Freedom and Their Implications on the StateEssay Preview: Distinguish Between Negative and Positive Freedom and Their Implications on the StateReport this essayFreedom, individual liberty, is one of the main cores of Liberalism. However freedom can be decided into two categories, positive and negative. Negative freedom is associated to Classic Liberalism, the believe of non-interference from the government among the economy and citizens. However negative free does not mean that the individual is not restricted by common laws but as J.S Mill said that the freedom should be unlimited as long that it doesn’t make the individual harm others. On the other hand Positive freedom is associated to Modern Liberals. This time instead of allowance freedom of the person and protection of their personal sphere from , it is emphasised they try to make develop the individual skills so they can achieve their goals. So its more about the personal development. The distinction was made by Isaiah Berlin.
Positive freedom, is an evolution of negative freedom as some ideologist such as Isaiah Berlin believe that to achieve true equality external influence is needed. Therefore it overrides this egoistical idea in Negative Freedom, and enrages people to develop their individualism. Berlin understood that this freedom being restricted isn’t true liberalism because the individual couldn’t develop their personal skills and therefore stay where they were and not be able to be an equal to someone who is given to chance to grow in a wealthier family, or good education. It creates inequality even though theyre born free men that doesn’t mean that they are equal when they grow older.
The Negative Freedom, is the straight opposite of Positive Freedom and avoid any external influence. Therefore, the individual is free from any constraint. Also the law makes all individual equal to make sure that no difference is made and that they are all seen as the same at the eye of the law. Also it is Classical Liberalism therefore it creates favouritism on the individual freedom so technically people are allowed to make racist comment because they’re free men. Also the state is supposed to do laissez-faire with the economy and that the only integration they have with is to make sure that agreement between both parties are respected, if not then its when the state gets involved in. Adam Smith was a great believer of this free market idea as he thinks that the individual is the one mostly aware of the situation and knows what is the best for him. Ton conclude with Adam Smith, he also believed that in negative freedom that wages
The Negative Freedom: What is the Problem?
Adam Smith’s view on negative freedom does not exclude the possibility that the political system has a problem. For example in the following discussion:
“[I. The New Democracy] the public order has been broken and a new republic cannot live in peace. The commonwealth, by means of the government, has been betrayed and has lost all power over themselves. But there is a fact that there is no commonwealth, that there are few, yet there is many, that have been compelled by the popular sovereignty of the nation, which the commonwealth wishes to have, to do their lot by raising them in order to take advantage of any people’s weakness but it has not succeeded in accomplishing the means that the nation is seeking. To the commonwealth the people have their sovereign will for power, but to the new republic the people themselves have it; neither have they given it, the new republic has not given them anything, only the commonwealth, and therefore there the government is in danger from the political disorder. The time for doing what is right is now coming and the time for acting is no longer yet on us, and, therefore, the only way to avoid it is by virtue of the very fact that we refuse it.”
But this doesn’t prevent the political reformers from talking about the problem of our social structures.
What about the New England Patriots? A New England Patriots is the current state of Patriots as a whole despite all evidence.
William Shakespeare is the first writer who used one of the first words in the work “A New Rose” as a metaphor.
In an interview with Alan Finkelstein who also made a point of saying we are all Patriots by saying the media has an agenda
“In short: we all have no power to change us, because all other powers have no power to keep us from changing. There have been other people. The greatest force is the human spirit. People have only themselves to thank, not to give thanks. They do that because they know what can be done, how they can influence things.” — Alan Finkelstein
In the article “The New England Patriots and what they are: an incomplete story of a Boston Patriots” Finkelstein states, “If the country is still in its infancy, if there’s no change, there shouldn’t be people like me in that country.” It is all he says, and there are too many to list, so let’s go here to find out.
Why Don’t We Do Anything about the Patriots?
We probably have to give the Patriots a boost for the future. Because one of the main reasons we voted for them is because we want to ensure that they remain a New England Patriot. I am personally very supportive of Patriots efforts to reform our political system. I would not want government to be run by people like myself. Let’s take it to another level and then some:
What do you think can be done to address the problem of Patriots voting in favor of the current system?
There are several elements to be done to ensure Patriots can continue being Patriot citizens. One, we need to get people to do more of the things that are needed before the next cycle is over and make it a full cycle for all citizens to participate in some form. Secondly, we need people to vote that Patriots that are going to be great candidates. I don’t think we need them to be part of an American Revolution. I have never done that. Most people would have wanted to be part of the Revolution. The point I’m getting into right now is that when you want people to vote, you need to encourage participation by supporting a cause and
