Critical Decision: The Toughest Decision Ever Made

Sometime in one’s life, critical decisions can be difficult, complex, terrifying, and life changing. Nevertheless, the most positive decisions are never accidental. A person’s actions derive from one’s motives, which are produced by grounds and purposes that demonstrate the reasoning of one’s decision. For instance, uprooting family members from one familiar environment to a foreign one takes a substantial amount of thought and planning. I had a choice to do nothing or seek other alternatives to benefit us all. So, we had to make a rational decision.
In 2004, my daughter was abducted at gunpoint and sexually assaulted repeatedly by a sex offender in the neighborhood. A year passed, and after many hours of physical and psychiatric therapy; my daughter did not seem to be making any progress. She constantly had nightmares, was always angry, refused to go to school, and became isolated from everyone. This worried me a great deal, and as a single parent of six, I knew that I had to do something. I had no clue on how to heal my daughter, and provide a safe environment for all of my children. As I went to work one day, I began thinking about my family’s future. I realized that the position I held was not something that I was willing to do the rest of my life. The schools my children were attending were over-populated, and the crime rate was on a steady rise. Taking all of these factors into consideration brought me to the conclusion that my children and I needed a new start.
