Uglies
Tally Youngblood is a realistic that goes through teen life being seen as ugly. In Scott Westerfelds Uglies, a 15 year old girl named Tally Youngblood will attempt to be pretty at any means necessary. But, Tally will have to make a tough decision to be pretty or to be ugly because of drastic changes.
Tally Youngblood, a 15 year old girl born as an Ugly and dreams to be pretty. But Tally must turn 16 to take to operation to become a pretty, she is only 15 though so she has to wait a year. Tally is described as having frizzy brown hair, squinted eyes almost completely closed, has a wide nose, a wide forehead, and thin lips. Tally wants to be pretty more then anything. Almost every one of her friends got the operation to be pretty except for her friend Shay. Shay doesnt want to become pretty because it takes away some of her intelligents, Shay chooses to run away from that instead of just saying no to the operation to go on wild adventures away from everyone. Tally doesnt like it but Shay is her friend so she lets her leave so she can get caught like she always does.
Tally soon gets a letter from her old friend Peris who became pretty before Tally could. Days after that Shay tells Tally that she is planning to run away again and that she said ” I plan to live in the wild with my friend Zane”, Tally obviously freaked out about it because it was 3 days before her 16th birthday and Shay wouldnt be there when she turns pretty. But Shay leaves then Tally sneaked out to see Peris in New Pretty Town. Avoiding the street lights and helicopters she finds Periss house where he was living and after a good conversation Peris had Tally meet a former Special from The Special Circumstances named Dr. Cable. Shay ran away when they met Dr. Cable. Dr. Cable gave Tally proposition where if she finds Shay that she would give Tally the operation to be pretty and gave her a Heart Pendent “to activate only when she finds Shay”. [pages 203-211]
Tally was following the trail to find Shay and tally accidently found The Smoke. Tally started to like being at The Smoke so she stays for a little bit. Then, Tally ran into a resident of The Smoke his name was David. Tally soon started to have feelings for him and David cared for her as much as Tally did for him they kissed. But then, Shay ran into them will they were kissing Tally didnt know
