A Change in My Path
All of us come from different places all over the world. Some of us came from the continent of North and South America, and some are from Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia, and even some scientist tried to build habitation for research purposes from the cold continent Antarctica . We all have differences when it comes to values, religion, culture, and a lot more. I grew up in the country of the Philippines. I gained all of my principal comprehension, values and life fundamentals in a small town called Camiling in the province of Tarlac.
Camiling is one of the agricultural places that specialize in grain crops like rice and corn. Growing up in this neighborhood helped me develop all of the necessary characteristics that I have today. I graduated high school in the year of 2006 at Saint Nicholas Academy. This institution taught me my first knowledge on how the life will change over time. After highschool, I started to enroll for college in the field of Information Technology. This was my leading college experience and the prime example to show me that college life was so different than high school.
Exactly nine months had passed, and my father ran his petition for me to be with him here in the United States. National City, California was my first neighborhood that I took shelter in after migrating from the Philippines. Looking for a way to survive was my first goal in exchange of living in the expensive city that first took my refuge. I found a great deal of job seeking tactics just to earn a decent amount of money so I can help my father in some of his bills like the apartment payment, food, electricity and the necessity of the 21st century, the internet. I started working as a fast-food worker in Mcdonalds where in two years, I became a floor supervisor from a regular crew member; electronics technician in a company named Cobham Sensor Systems in Clairemont, San Diego; dishwasher in Coronado Retirement Village, an independent living facility located in Coronado, California; pharmaceutical technician in a huge pharmaceutical pharmacy named Gen-Probe in Mira Mesa, California and now a Certified Nursing Assistant(CNA).
I was working as a CNA in Paradise Valley Hospital, a small hospital in National City for 2 years. In those two years, there was a lot of ups and downs for me. I remember when I got my first “Star” (a star in your badge that was awarded when an employee had been recognized by patients or by other colleagues); it felt like all of your hard work had been payed off by someone recognizing your ability and your work ethics.
There was also a time that I got problems that is work related like that one time I fed an NPO patient (NPO means no food or drink allowed for a patient due to a scheduled procedure done by a medical professional), and I ended up having a write-up by the end of my shift. It was a troublesome feeling that even you try to stay away from trouble, sometime it finds you. Yet I stood up with my mistake and signed that write-up whole heartedly and promised myself to learn from that heartbreaking lesson.
However, when a patient of yours say “Thank you, you helped me ease the pain a little bit,” that eases all the 12 hrs of standing and running around. I decided to help my patients better by stepping up my game. I asked my manager if I could be more of a CNA or something one step higher than being a regular floor CNA. Then I asked myself, “What was the next step for me on this medical career that I managed to keep for the last 2 years?”
As the chain of command in the medical field, almost all of the hospitals will start in housekeeping ,followed by Unit Secretary, then CNA, Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Doctors and then the Higher-ups position like directors and managers. As I looked at the chain, I found nowhere to place myself one step higher, as the next steps for me required some higher educational background. I realized that without any background on my education, I would not get any further.
I went back to school in the year of 2016 to pursue my nursing degree. I was out of school for almost ten years and all the knowledge that I accumulated before was all gone. This made me feel like I need to go back to preschool to start all over again. My coworkers pushed me to go back to school. They always say that “ You need to go get a nursing degree, your talent is useless in your position right now.” I felt offended hearing those words but I always look at it as a motivation on going forward and find the best way to gain education needed for the position that I am trying to achieve.
The most inspiring person that turned
