For a long time, people have been made to believe that artificial sweeteners are the solution to their weight problems, diabetes, cravings among other problems. However, the opposite is ridiculously worrying. These sweeteners are actually chemicals which are extremely toxic for human consumption.   Aspartame is a made of phenylalanine, methanol and aspartic acids. The three ingredients have greater harms than benefits while consumed (FreeMindSociety, 2008). As the video on “The Truth about Aspartame” reveals, it has over 92 side effects. Too bad for us, this artificial sweetener is used in over 6000 consumer foods worldwide (Westtridge44, 2009). This gives us a lot of reasons to worry. The approval of aspartame as an artificial sweetener by FDA was a calculated move that was engineered towards benefiting a few and keeping the world population in check. Splenda, on the other hand, is an artificial sweetener with similar characteristics as aspartame. This sweetener is made of sucralose which contains chlorine. Chlorocarbons have for a long time been known to be extremely toxic to both humans and the environment (Salazar, 2009). Though this product is approved by the FDA, it should be a no-consumption product. As the video explains, Splenda was a result of an experiment intended to produce an insecticide. Funny how an insecticide turns out to be the product going into a cup of coffee. Additionally, the no calories belief attached to this product is entirely wrong. This product has calories in it and it should not be recommended to diabetic people.
