The pace of life was much different before media became such a big part of our lives. Many people today feel as if time is going much faster, even though all these devises are supposed to be time savers.
The pace of life before televisions and computer were so big was much, much slower. People would listen to the radio night time, or go outside and socialize, and maybe even get into bed earlier. They would have more social events and spend much more time outdoors. Life was much more relaxed.
Life did not seem too be as busy before media, it was at a much slower pace, things were never rushed. Messages would be sent by the mail, and would take much longer for someone to receive. Party-lines were a form of communication; people would share a phone line with many other houses. The conversations were never private and you would have to wait your turn in order to make a call.
Information would be searched for in book, such as dictionaries and encyclopaedias, or by asking the elders in the community.
Travelling was not common as the roads were not paved and it would take much longer to even travel to a nearby community. Travelling by train was more common than travelling by car for longer commutes.
Older people in general, and the one I spoke with seem to always light up when they talk about years ago. Although they did not have many things that we have today, life must have been good or they would not enjoy talking about it as much.
