“Pantheon”
The Pantheon is one of Romes oldest preserved and most popular monuments.
The Pantheon has stood there since it was in 27 BC. It is the largest dome built in the world. People have referred to it as the symbol of Rome. It was based on the 12 gods of heaven. In the 19th century it served as a Christian church (Dutemple). Its one of the favorite places for Romans and visitors in Rome.
The most important achievements of Rome are arches, vaults, and domes. They hardly ever put arches into temple designs; one of the exceptions is the pantheon. It is topped with a curved dome that looks out to the sky and when it rains it hits the marble of the pantheon floor. The arch became popular in 313 BC and still today is known throughout the world. In order to old up the walls they needed to be six meters thick of both concrete and brick, which they thought was impossible.
The Pantheon is decorated with mosaics and paintings from scenes in history. Rome has a lot of different varieties of building but some of them have dyed out. The ones that are still there are Basilicas, Theaters, Amphitheaters, bath, bridges, aqueducts, temples, villas, and tomb monuments. It is also decorated with a lot of marble and a huge dome that gives plenty of light inside.
The vaults represent a roof or ceiling that makes construction based on stone, concrete or bricks on the principle of the arch. The Pantheons history dates back to sometime before 25 BC. Around the Pantheon there were many fought battles.
Hadrian restored the pantheon. After fire and lighting caused major damage to the building it took 7 years to be restored. It consisted of an entrance hall with three naves & all fronted by the massive columns. .
