Rosacea is a skin disease that affects the middle third of the face. It is viewable as redness on the face and nose that normally blush. It is mainly seen on the forehead, the chin and the lower half of the nose. Pimples can occur in Rosacea, in fact pimples in most case are mistaken as acne known as acne rosacea. Rosacea is different from acne. It is mostly found in adults and is most commonly found in ages 30-60 especially adults who have fair skin. The difference between acne and Rosacea is that there are no blackheads or whiteheads found in Rosacea as there are in acne. Rosacea is found in both men and women but are more frequent in women and severe with men. The cause of rosacea is unknown. Rosacea is most commonly known in people who blush easily. Rosacea is mostly triggered by blushing in areas of the face. How is Rosacea diagnosed? Your doctor will diagnosis rosacea after a physical exam. You probably will not have any medical test done unless the diagnosis is unclear. During an exam, your doctor will check the skin on your face, your eyes, neck, and upper chest for any symptoms that u have noticed in the past. Everyone must be sure to tell your doctor when you first noticed any symptoms and how often they occur. This information, along with your family history, is usually enough for a diagnosis. What are the signs and symptoms of rosacea? Rosacea is typically on the face. It cause inflammation of the skin of the face, particularly the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. When rosacea first developes it may appear, then disappear and reappear. In various times the skin fails to return to its normal color and large blood vessels and pimples arrive. Rosacea lasts for years and, if untreated, it will worsen in time and become permanent. Untreated rosacea for the nose can cause a disfiguring nose condition called rhinophyma. There are also thick bumps on the lower half of the nose and nearby cheeks. Rhinophyma occurs mainly in men and can require severe surgical repair.
