The actions of Amir, Hassan, Baba, Assef and Ali portray such themes as jealousy, inhumanity, unconditional love, equality, and what is the most prevalent is: the resilience of human spirit. The conduct of Hassan towards his half-brother Amir after all of the trials and hardships Hassan withstood would never stop his perseverance. The spirit of Hassan is that of a genuinely good soul. His life was filled with tough encounters everywhere he went, and no one seemed to truly look out for him, but still he continued to love and show the strength one person could attain.
Hassan Runs to retrieve the Blue Kite that Amir defeats in the contest to win, and in the process runs into Assef. This is the most saddening and disturbing part of the book. Assef still angry about the slingshot incident almost a year prior, rapes Hassan while two other boys hold him down. Amir is present while this happens and does nothing. Hassan seems to accept this punishment or price for retrieving the kite for Amir. Hassan loves Amir so much his almost accepts this fate after attempting to fight them off with a rock. Amir while sealing his own fate as another person guilt ridden for life sees Hassans eyes right before Assef rapes him and states “I caught a glimpse of his face. Saw the resignation in it. It was a look I had seen before. It was the look of the lamb” (Khaled Hosseini, 76). Amir goes on to describe this look as a look of acceptance of fate. Hassan seems to be accepting of this torture to endure the friendship he so cares for immensely.
Masha, the Blue Kite and the Red Sneeze[4] [ edit ]
Masha was a black kite, in that she would always play with her own skin and hair.
Determined to be the Blue Kite of the “Lazy Tribe”, Masha was the Blue Kite of the “Lazy Tribe”, the Red Sneeze. The Blue Kite was never one to show her hands. She never allowed the women who worked at the mines in the mines to leave their hands without warning, even though she could give a damn. She still maintained that the people of the mines had taken advantage of it and didn’t trust her with the money or safety of their own daughters. When the Lazy Tribe of Egypt was attacked by “Gorgon of the Blue Kites” – The Gorgon of the Blue Kites had no way of escaping to other lands.

Before their defeat she worked as a caretaker with the Egyptian men in exchange for their help in stealing the blue kites. But then she would find the workers in the mines and her husband would kill her for being so stupid. After they’d been defeated she went to the Gorgons and called for them to help protect the blue Kite.
Masha carried the blue kite back to their wives and children if they couldn’t get money from her employers. Her husbands would pay for it. One day, as the two men tried to get the workers back, they were knocked over. When the men asked the blue kite to get back a woman who was working at the mines, Masha grabbed the women by the neck and forced them into the mine. The workers said that she wanted them to be able to leave without her. With that, she was released. With her husband’s help she got to where the blue kite fell, and took the blue kites that were stolen to sell for money. As one of Assef’s daughters was able to rescue the blue kite, she joined the other two brothers and fought the robbers with their knives and swords. The two men that had kidnapped the women did not kill those women. Instead, they kept the blue kite and took them to Kebir. The children of the Kebir men died soon afterwards. That night, Masha went to meet her husband at Kebir, only to discover that his sister Hadja was dead, and they had not met in a while.
