DRIVERS OF THE RURAL ECONOMYIn rural areas the most noticeable progress is a dramatic demographic transformation that has been a major factor behind the socio-economic development. The data shows that the number of household increased by 1.5 percent per year due to the formation of new households as married sons become separate and later make parents themselves. From statistical information it is shown that the children who live with parents decreased from 2.9 in 1988 to 2.5 in. Consequently, over the last 25 years the formation of household went down from 5.9 to 4.2 members. So we can say that the per capital income rate increased very faster than household incomes in rural areas. It is found that almost 1.1 percent of the people migrate each year to cities and towns in quest of better economic opportunities. The rural population grew by only 0.6 percent annually between 1988 and 2000, also bye 0.3 percent between 2000 and 2013. So the, the dependency ration has decreased substantially.Human resource is the most valuable resource in Bangladesh. But it is a noticeable that the quality of human resource is very low. Almost 46% of adult men and 72% of adult women didn’t have any formal schooling in 1988.If we consist of those of didn’t pass primary schools. The number of men and women was respectively between 62-83%.While the proportion of population of working age about the participation rate of schooling children h 16 to 59 years increased from 48.58% .The proportion of children up to 15 years of age increased substantially. The proportion of primary school’s children participating schools improved from 66-97% for boys in 1988 and 55-98% for girls in 2013. The data also shows that the number of girls are now attending in secondary schools more than boys as they dropout from schools for some specific reasons. This dropout starts from the age of years due to support the family to earn money and age 13 for girls due to marriage. But the dropout process is decreasing because govt. too some steps to remove dropout from schools.The educational attainment of the workers tells that the educated one are employed in service or business, on the other hand the less educated are employed as wage-laborers and farmers. Households are earning their livelihood by working members with largest level of education, which is followed by those reliable on trade, farming and business. It is shown that agriculture is the main source of livelihood for rural people. Water and land is the main natural resource for agriculture. The data also shows that the number of land run per household has eroded substantially over time. The average size of land run per household has decreased from 1.50-1.31 acres between, 1988 to 2000 and again to 0.75 acre in 2013. The number of landless households or have only homestead land has decreased from 35-41% between 2008 and 2013.
