Advanced Placement offers students so many opportunities to challenge themselves and learn new educational material that is not provided in regular public school curriculums (well Dekalb County anyway); yet so many students dont take advantage of the classes. I could have made AP Language and Composition an easy class, as anyone would say about any class, but it was difficult to stay focused, especially when you dont understand something or it bores you. In order to “survive” in the class, dedication is the key. Making sure you can motivate yourself to stay focused and give everything the best that you can give. Late nights, long weekends, AP workshops: they all eventually pay off in the end. The class not only offers academic knowledge, but things that assist everyone in everyday life. Persistence, dedication, motivation: AP Language can strengthen these characteristics as they will definitely be needed to complete the majority of the semester
(and of course those traits can be used upon graduation from Stephenson and whatever school of your choice)!
If ever there is anything you dont understand, ASK QUESTIONS! Mr. Wells is not going to laugh at you (well not all the time anyway). Tutorial is always available. I wish I would have taken advantage of it earlier in the year; however I wanted until the middle of the second semester. By that time it was far too late and I was a day late and a dollar short. Working together with others in the class will also better your understanding of the material. Another area that is extremely important.
All in all the class is quite an experience and no matter how much advice you receive from rising juniors, your parents, or even Mr. Wells himself, the choice is yours, choose wisely!
