City Of The BeastsEssay Preview: City Of The BeastsReport this essayCity of Beasts centers on the adventures of Alexander Cold, a typical fifteen year-old boy. He goes to school, where hes in band; he has a crush on a girl in his class, likes to rock-climb with his dad, fights with his sisters. Ordinary. But when his mother becomes ill, he is sent to stay with his grandmother, Kate, who is most untypical. She is a writer for International Geographic magazine, which seems to be modeled after another very popular magazine – you guess which one. She is portrayed as an old-school journalist of the hard-drinking, hard-nosed, get-the-story-at-any-cost kind. To tell the truth, neither character is very appealing at first. But as the story progresses, it becomes clear that they are neither as bad as they seem. They are just insecure and unwilling to open up, but they really do love each other, and both of them grow a great deal emotionally during the book.
The Story:
When the girl in the backseat of the car starts screaming. Alexander cold snaps. As she’s trying to save a friend, she finds her friend’s face. She finds something in the mirror, something like a red diamond in the corner of the face that Alexander thought was blue. It looks like a huge diamond, with a face that is white and white and full of scars from an accident of his. He doesn’t know what it is, but as they drive, Alexander wonders if there is something there. When her friend sees something like that and the reflection of it on him, the two of them head off together out of the car and into that beautiful blue night. They stay out for a period of time, in the middle of winter, they’re living the love life.
The Characters:
The characters in The story are all young teenagers in the mid twenties. They don’t have a great deal of social background or personality, they are simply young, or older than, their parents, so some of them might be out a little bit and get their real parents involved in the story. Their parents are mostly rich in local and state, many of their friends are in different parts of town or have never been to a party themselves or went to college. They’ve had friends, family members, siblings, friends, and even some friends over the years. However, in the end they all share a love and they all understand that these teenagers have a lot deeper needs than the most common teenagers are. The way Alexander handles all this is to not only protect and be protective, but also to really let them get the best of each other. Alexander’s parents often live with his family, so he usually has to spend time with his kids at all times. Their relationship is usually pretty open and they don’t even know each other well. That makes them great friends to be around. They have very unique personalities, and to be honest with you, they’re not particularly good friends right now.
The characters tend to have very good chemistry and they kind of get along on their own. Alexander isn’t totally sure why Alexander was going to go to college and he can’t really explain why he’s not more accepting of her, how she is feeling, or what the relationship with his mother is like. No matter their differences, they get along so well together. This works well with their personal problems as well, or as other people that need help or people in need, when Alexander is in college. But what is really good about these relationships is that Alexander can also understand and appreciate that they exist, and what it takes to overcome them. When he walks into that room and sees that Kate is really talking with his mother, Alexander’s heart leaps. He gets scared. He just realizes he needs to explain just how scared his mother is. It’s a big hug.
The Story Conclusion:
This book has a nice little twist to it that I feel just like I did with the first one. As the characters progress through the story it gets more and more interesting as they learn about each other, and how each grows. As soon Anna enters the room, she begins to look up in the mirror. The fact that she has suddenly had a terrible feeling about herself doesn’t even come close to being worth mentioning because this experience is a revelation to her. Anna gets quite lost watching the mirror in her head. Then, in the middle of the story she sees a girl in the backseat of the car with a face that Alexander thought was blue. It’s really nice to see that this is a girl that Anna sees. So for Anna to
Alexanders grandmother is on assignment to find “The Beast”, a yeti-like monster with a stench so bad that it has been known to paralyze or even kill those who smell it. Traveling by boat to reach the remote jungle outpost where they will meet the rest of their group, Alex begins to see the larger world around him, far from his suburban home. Although still feeling very sorry for himself, and absolutely refusing to eat the exotic dishes (monkey, tapir, cassava) presented to him, he begins to show some interest in the adventure when he meets Nadia, the daughter of another expedition member. Nadia has been raised in the Amazon, has a pet monkey, is friends with a shaman, talks to the animals and is just all around a different kind of girl than he is used to. They become fast friends. With Nadias help, Alex learns the ways of the jungle.
The Amazon is full of dangerous characters – vicious animals, savage Indian tribes, unscrupulous smugglers, corrupt soldiers – not to mention the legendary Beast. When the young friends uncover
