A stereotype can be classified as a set of preconceived notions in the minds of some people about others who differ in religion, race, culture and socio economic means. There are other groups that are not immune from stereotypes. There are women who are blonde and, to some, are labeled as incompetents. How often have we heard someone say that they are having a Ðblonde moment when they forget to do something? African Americans are Ðcategorized in many ways; tall men, good basketball players. Young African American males who live in the city or in low income housingÐgang bangers.
Asians, bad drivers, however , good at math and science. Oh, I nearly forgot, women also go on the list of bad drivers. The list goes on and on.
With regards to the scenario of Ourtown residents attitudes about in coming section 8 housing and the increasing Latino population; would they have negative stereotypes? Of course! Maybe not everyone would, but there would be quite a few that did.
The negative stereotypes would make some double check locked doors on cars and in their homes only because Ðthose types are inclined to steal others property. With Ðthose types some would be afraid to take walks at night for fear of getting beaten up, shot, or robbed. Reality and statistics prove that this just may be the case however, when the population increases so does the crime rate. In addition along with poverty such as section 8 housing comes crime.
