Calvin Klein Agency Problems
Agency ProblemsWhile working at Calvin Klein as a floor associate, I encountered an agency problem. For a whole year, I worked extremely hard to get noticed. I only received thirty minutes for lunch and I managed my team accordingly. While eating lunch in the back of the store, I noticed my boss would not clock out for her lunch. Also, she had a friend that worked in my same department. My boss would also allow her to not clock out. These unfortunate events went on for months. My boss found it in her own interest to not clock out, which allowed her to increase her hours unjustifiably. From the owner’s perspective, they are losing money from a criminal activity. During the beginning of the summer, my air conditioner stopped working. The first thing to do in that situation is call for repairs. The next day, a repair man showed up to my house. We examined the air conditioning unit, and explained to us it needed to be replaced. He told my father and I that we needed to purchase a new unit, and he gave us the information from his company. Before making any purchases, we had another technician come out to give us his opinion. Also, he was a close friend of my father’s coworker. He told us that the company that tried selling us a specific air conditioning unit was extremely expensive. It turned out that the air-conditioning unit the first repair man insisted was too much for the size of our house. The first technician was acting on his own interest to receive a greater commission, even though it would of cost us more. When I was working at Marcos last year we had a manager who at the end of the night when we started to close everything in the store down she would count the money and would put the deposit in the bag but she would take a few 20 dollar bills out every night for a couple weeks. And this caused the store to lose profits. The real affect was on the managers and the store owners. The Girl who was stealing benefitted from it by gaining 500-1000$. While working at Amazon I heard of a manger that got caught stealing some of the merchandise. They said he had been doing it for almost a year and he even threatened one of his understudies when they found out about it. While he might have benefited in the short run from the stuff he stole, this directly hurt the company because they were losing inventory that could have been sold.
