Their efforts include helping the needy, building affordable housing, finding cures, providing awareness, programs for the youth, positive role models, education in health and life skills, and saving the environment. Understanding individual community needs and concerns are the focus of most community organizations. These efforts allow them the opportunity to aid and assist individuals efficiently and effectively. Community organizations can assist individual groups via various financial factions, which include donations from government and public entities. Some of these organizations have an IRS (501c3) tax exempt status that also qualifies them for various grants. This also affords them the opportunity to provide an array of supportive services while maintaining financial stability, independence, and security for individuals in need and for the organization.
American Cancer SocietyAmerican Cancer Society (ACS) is a nonprofit organization that has spent more time and money than any other organization trying to find the cause and cure for cancer. For 100 years ACS has been in a fight against cancer. ACS estimates that in 2013 there will be 1,660,290 people diagnosed of cancer and 580,350 deaths (Cancer Facts and Figures, 2013). They are constantly doing research to find cures for cancer, to reduce the number of cancer cases, and one day hope to finally win the battle against cancer. ACS is “the official sponsor for birthdays” (American Cancer Society, 2013). National Institute of Cancer Research (NICR)
The National Institute of Cancer Research (NICR) is NIH’s national cancer research center whose primary objective is the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and cure of disease in developing countries. As of April 14, 2012, NICR had received a grant of $60,000 to improve NRC’s quality of information and disseminate information relating to Cancer Trends, a global community health survey, on public health. The NICR Project includes a new study designed to better identify the causes, symptoms, and outcomes of cancer and the risk factors associated with the disease.
This year’s NICR report is included in the National Cancer Council’s annual report, Cancer Trends: How National Cancer Registries Can Become a Global Network. This report is based on a series of reports that were submitted to NRC by U.S. state, local, and international community agencies, including the American Association of Research Centers- National Cancer Council, Cancer Prevention Research Institute, Cancer Research Institute of the Pacific Foundation, National Institute of Occupational Medicine (CPRI), National Institute of Occupational Medicine (NICOM), and National Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health Sanitary Exposure Scale, US Department of Occupational and Environmental Health National Institutes of Health
National Cancer Institute of Australia and New Zealand
The Cancer Institute of Australia and New Zealand have a mission to promote the health and wellbeing of those affected by breast cancer and its associated health behaviors. In 2002, the Centre for Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention’s National Cancer Registry began collecting national cancer datasets that were shared worldwide. Since that time, this data set has led to the development of a national cancer registry of every person with breast cancer (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Europe). Currently, one in every four Canadians lives with breast cancer. In 2016, nearly 12 million people in the United Kingdom are diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 15 percent of breast cancer deaths are from cancer. The Cancer Institute of Australia and New Zealand provides advice to the health care professionals, patients, and non-profit organizations who use the registry to inform, prevent, and end cancer. The Cancer Institute of Newfoundland and Labrador is a global organization that has spent more time and money than any other organization trying to figure out the cause and cure of breast cancer and its associated health behaviors. To support this vital effort of prevention, research, and treatment, the National Cancer Registry of Newfoundland and Labrador’s National Cancer Strategy and Guidelines is available to patients in Newfoundland and Labrador and Australia.
