The American colonization efforts started when Christopher Columbus accidently encountered the Indies on his expedition to Asia. This voyage sparked the Age of Exploration. The land discovered by Columbus sparked great interests from the European powers. Countries such as France and Spain were interested in either gaining commercial profit, or interested in conquest.

Through their motivations of colonization, their treatment of the native american peoples, and their eventual community development, it is evident that France and Spain possess many similarities and differences in these areas.
As the French and the Spanish colonized America they came in contact with the natives.
