Smoking Marijuanadecreased appetite, cravings, restlessness, and other forms of physical discomfort.Smoking marijuana may also have factors that are a concern for your mental health. A study from Northwestern University discovered that those who smoke marijuana have poor memory and an abnormal brain structure. This study also displayed that chronic marijuana abuse may lead to schizophrenia. It was also noted that the younger that someone is exposed into using marijuana, the worse that the effects may become. The American Medical Association reported: “Heavy cannabis use in adolescence causes persistent impairments in neurocognitive performance and IQ, and use is associated with increased rates of anxiety, mood and psychotic thought disorders”. To sum that up, smoking marijuana may make the smoker dumber even when they are not high on the cannabis.
Aside from the health factors, pot may turn your life upside down in a highly negative way. Positron emission tomography scanned nineteen pot smokers and nineteen non-smokers. Those nineteen that smoked pot had results of less dopamine in those who smoked more. The deficiency of dopamine may cause a feeling of laziness and a lack of motivation in the brain. This lazy feeling may harm students in school to lose jobs, flunk out of their school, become frustrated or even losing those close to them due to personality disorders. Students that are exposed to marijuana have lower GPA’s and are less likely to be accepted into colleges than nonsmokers due to their inability of organizing information and remembering. A study of postal workers saw that over fifty percent of workers that tested positive for smoking marijuana had more accidents. It was also addressed that marijuana intoxication was responsible for a fraction of driver fatalities.
Marijuana and marijuana dependence with alcohol
Marijuana and alcohol are two different things. The first thing to consider is if smoked or not. These two substances are commonly used, but are not the exact same. Both types of marijuana smoke is often associated with increased risk of diabetes, depression, and anxiety in a manner that increases risk of depression. However, research has shown that marijuana has positive effects on cognition, creativity, and the ability to solve problems, as well as on self-control. Scientists often point the finger at marijuana for causing the mental state and behavior problems that cause anxiety and suicide, but marijuana use and consumption are the main causes of mental health issues.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health,
“In 2015, over half of all veterans who began working in public service in 2011 were also drug dependent. In addition, the largest percentage of veterans who started drug use in the military (59 percent) and other service members on a national scale (33 percent) were diagnosed with marijuana use. Additionally, only 19.7 percent of veterans with substance abuse or dependence experienced a mental health disorder before they became classified as dependent or had a mental health crisis during the previous year.
For their study on marijuana, Dr. Michael Jarrell, a former neuroscientist who has written extensively about human behavior and marijuana, published a paper in Alcohol and Drug Dependence Review in 2000, which stated that:
“[C]ompassionals who used marijuana had a significantly higher risk for the development of alcohol–related psychosis and schizophrenia. However, these findings did not reveal causality. There may be important health and behavioral differences with cannabis use that are not known to the general public. The study’s results may suggest that cannabis use may be associated with mental health conditions, but we need to evaluate the link from the general population.”
Cannabis and depression (and suicide)
It remains to be seen how many of us can tell if we have suffered a stroke or a mental illness. Although some will tell you these are mental illnesses, I’ve met hundreds of people who have been diagnosed with suicide as a result of marijuana use, and most would be happy to share their story.
A common misconception is that marijuana affects you. I want to emphasize that these people were exposed to marijuana in the womb and their lives were not as simple as mine. The same can be said about marijuana using people or individuals as they were exposed to it. In fact, marijuana is even commonly reported to cause alcohol and nicotine overdoses. However, research has demonstrated that high dosages of marijuana have no impact on the effects of other medications.
The first thing to examine is whether the benefits of marijuana depend on what level the person is using marijuana. As discussed above, marijuana is an extremely potent drug and is only psychoactive, meaning no physical or mental harm is possible if the drug is abused. Researchers have found that marijuana can lead to depression and even death. Research that shows no effects on behavior or results has shown no effect or effect of marijuana on cognitive function.
Research has also shown no health benefits of eating marijuana as well, as the amounts consumed in marijuana are highly stimulant and potent in driving people to get high. Researchers suggest that if marijuana can influence the brain in a person who is not using marijuana, that person will also become less sensitive to it. In addition, chronic or repeated high doses of marijuana can lead to a more negative effect than the other drugs like heroin and cocaine. Researchers also found that more people use marijuana at the same time as other drugs like alcohol and tobacco.
The good news is that people do benefit from eating marijuana. The bad news is that if they do not, they may become addicted to it very quickly. Researchers have shown
