The main purpose of these project is to connect the island and mainland and for the welfare of the people.Background Before 1985, transportation between the island and the mainland was solely dependent on the state-owned Penang Ferry Service that runs between Butterworth and George Town. In the early 1970s, the idea to build a bridge linking Seberang Perai to Penang Island was suggested by the 2nd Prime Minister of Malaysias Tun Abdul Razak and the 2nd Chief Minister of Penangs Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu. When the bridge was constructed, the central span had six lanes, while the rest of the bridge had four lanes. There was an ongoing project to have the entire bridge widened to six lanes. Work on the project began on January 2008 and was completed in late 2009.Description of a major elementsThe written deliverable products shall be submitted in electronic draft format for the COTR’s review and comment. Final copies shall be delivered to the COTR five (5) working days after receipt of the Government’s comments. Deliverables shall be submitted with an accompanying letter describing the deliverable product and delivered to, Office of the Chief Information Officer. Weekly Contract Status and Progress Review – The Contractor shall participate in weekly management review meetings and be prepared to present and discuss the following:• Activities planned for the week;• Work and deliverables completed during the period;• Status of ongoing activities;• Activities planned for the following period;• Problems or issues projected or identified;• Alternatives and/or recommended solution(s) for identified or projected problems or issues; and• Known or projected resource (staff and funding) and schedule impacts.The delivery schedule of key written management products is specified in the delivery schedule table contained in this section. Next, the company had to amend its piles caps and columns design to ensure that they can withstand an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale.Increase in the project costDemolition or rework of any project component that cost RM 2.8 billion to RM 405 billion.Quality of projectsVariation quality of work because contractors have to compensate for the losses by cutting corners.  d) Assumptions critical to the project.Toll paymentCurrently practice on toll payment to all the bridge users with different rate. Users have to pay twice which on Penang bridge toll and PLUS highway toll.Traffic controlTo control traffic congestion at Penang bridge especially for motorist. Furthermore, citizen still use the bridge because toll rate cheaper and shorter length. Environmental and monitoringWhich for marine and river water quality. e) Plans for status report updates.The owner and contractor must discuss align with the current project issue.
