Cruelty to Animals
Student’s Name:Professor’s Name:Course:Date of submission:Cruelty to animalsIntroduction Cruelty is a phrase used to define the act of causing pain or inflicting suffering. Animal cruelty is a global problem and is increasing in the contemporary society (Gullone 5). Animal cruelty is classified into two core categories: intentional cruelty or neglect. Neglect refers to the failure of providing to the animals sufficient food, water, health care or shelter. Animals are starved, and owners fail to provide veterinary care to them, and have inadequate housing. Moreover, some of the animals are housed in rooms with no light or ventilation.  Although, some animals are abused on the streets, the most rampant form of animal cruelty exist in homes and scientific laboratories through animal testing, and finally in the slaughter houses.Body  Presently, millions of rabbits, rats, dogs, cats and mice amongst many animals are currently locked in various laboratories across the globe (Ascione 89). These animals languish in pain and suffer from stress. They are usually stabbed, injected, exposed and operated through the use of poisonous and harmful chemicals. Rats and mice are often forced to inhale fumes that are toxic, and corrosive chemicals are often rubbed into the eyes and skin of the rabbits while the dogs are usually fed on the pesticides in the controlled environment (Ascione 17). The majority of the products that includes cosmetics drugs and food are initially tested on the animals. The animal right advocates have greatly expressed their concern regarding the pain, harm, and death that the experiments can cause to the animals. The advocates assert that the majority of the tests are not required and produce results that cannot be applied to the humans.  The groups have declared that animal testing ought to be replaced with other techniques like human cells tests in the scientific laboratory (Ascione 102). Scientific research is important towards understanding and developing cures for various diseases that affects the society. Nonetheless, the analysis should not be performed at the expense of afflicting pain, stress, and misery on other animals.   Animal cruelty is also depicted as a way of entertainment. For many decades, dogs have been pitted in stage fights by humans against each other.  In the contemporary American society bulldogs, dogs suffer the most extreme form of animal cruelty as they are staged to fight aggressively against each other. Fighting the Dogs, for example, can be traced back to the twelve century during the period that Romans invaded the Britain. Even though, the British lost the war, they were delighted in the endurance and tendency of their dogs and as a result starved the process of exporting the dogs in the fights against other bigger animals such as bulls and wild boars (Ascione 35). The big bulldogs have been cross bred with the smaller dog varieties and this lead to the emergence of the Bull Terrier Breed.  Notwithstanding the fact that dog fighting is against the law in the U.S, the fights occur in various states across the nation. Dog fighting takes place in various ways. Amongst the ways is street fighting. Through the street fighting, humans often engage the dogs in fights in back alleys, playground and street corners. These fights are linked with gang-related activities, and the animals that are injured in the fights are left to suffer in the streets. There have been cases where animal’s rescuers have been called by the law enforcement officers to rescue dying or dead animals in the streets. Another form of dog fighting is named as hobbyist. Through this events, the dogs participate in fights within a calendar year that have been organized. The handles of the dog pay significant attention to these dogs (Ascione 17). Professional is the other form of dog fighting.  This implies that people earn money as a result of selling, breeding and involving the dogs in the fighters.  It has been found that hobbyists and professionals in the contemporary society have a tendency of disposing of the dogs that they deem as not being aggressive.  When dogs are injured in the fighters, they might be starved or killed by the owners. Cockfighting is also deeply rooted in the culture and history of America.  Although illegal, it occurs in various rural areas in the southern states. The majority of animals such as dogs and cats are abandoned on the streets. The animals of the animals breed in the streets and the puppies suffer in the street (Merz-Perez and Kathleen 58). The animals are denied food, suffer from infections that are often unchecked and lead to the animal suffering great stress (Bekoff, 33). In addition, domestic violence offenders have been shown to vent their frustration on pets and street animals. In Circus and carnivals, animal cruelty is exhibited as a form of entertainment. Tigers, Bears, elephants amongst many animals are often seen at Circus and even thought they exhibit an appearance of being entertaining or funny, they are often pain and scared.  The animals are often conditioned to perform the tricks; the owners of these animals use electric chords, whips and muzzles in the process. The federal government does not monitor the training process. It has been indicated that the majority of the animals are depressed and aggressive due to the cruel conditions that they are faced with.  The animals are being faced with dangers of poaching, illegal hunting and the changes and destruction to their natural habitat. Animal right advocates argue that the animals ought not to be removed from their natural habitat.
