There are millions of words across the globe that are used to describe people and uncover their identity, but what is identity? How can you begin to describe something that varies so greatly from one human being to another? Can you create a universal meaning for a word describing human concepts that people often fail to define for themselves? Of course there isnt one definition to define such a word. It is an intricate aspect of human nature, and it has a definition just as complex.
To be young and Asian in America is a special brand of torture. There is an unspoken dictum of silence that grips Asian youth, a denial of our place in popular culture. Asian youth walk in America not quite sure where we fit in-black children have a particular brotherhood, Hispanic children have a particular brotherhood, white children own everything else. We cannot lay claim to jazz or salsa or swing; we cannot say our ancestors fought for equality against an oppressive government or roamed the great hallways of power across the globe. We do not have a music, a common hero, a lexicon of slang. Asian youth experience personal diasporas every day.
First of all, I am proud of my clothing. Those are so important to me. We have different dress for marriage. For an example, I am from Gujarat, so I can wear only Guajarati Sari in my marriage. I cannot wear any other clothes. I think it is really good. I feel religious person when I put this clothing on; it also give to respect to my religion. In Indian each states has their own clothing styles. We have almost 28 states so we have different many clothing styles. We also have different clothe for different festivals and married and unmarried women have different clothing. Indian dress tells about their culture. If a girl wearing a sari (one of the Indian clothes), anyone can tell that she is from Gujarat
Second, I am proud of my languages. In the U.S.A, people speak two languages, or some people can speak three languages. We could hardly find people who speak more than three languages. I can speak almost five languages because I grew up with those many languages. We have more than 21 languages in India. Same as clothe, each states has its own language but we also have one national language which is Hindi. Almost everybody knows this language in India. If someone speaking Gujarati (Indian language), I can tell that he/she is from Gujarat. I am able to communicate with any Indian. It is easy for me to learn new language because I am used to learn new language. According me, it is really good thing.
