Richard Dawkins Presintation
Richard Dawkins
Richard Dawkins was a very interesting to listen to, he shared a lot about his book called “The Magic of Reality”. He shared about some of the chapters, and how they have a question that people usually asks such as “What is the sun?”, or “Who was the first person, really?” He shares the stories, or what he believes to be “Myths” such as Adam being the first person, as is told in the bible. Dawkins really focused on promoting his book and left the religious attacks to his associate Sean Faircloth.
Sean Faircloth attacked religion while talking about his book called “Attack of the Theocrats”. He talked about how he first became knowledgeable about the bible when he was twelve and his family was traveling across the western part of the United States. He shared how his book talks about the “Fundamentalist fifty” and how they are knowledgeable about the Bible and want to share their beliefs with everyone else by writing their beliefs into federal law. He also shared how two children died in Alabama from being left in a church-sponsored daycare van for hours. He talked about how the state of Alabama and 12 others exempt church-sponsored daycares from health and safety regulations, while the “secular” daycares have to meet all regulations.
I really enjoyed the seminar, I do not try to be closed off to any ideas, whether they are religious or not. I try to listen to all views and arguments so I can get an understanding of where everyone is coming from. I do agree with almost all of Faircloth and Dawkins arguments. There should be regulations with religious sponsored companies and secular companies; there should not be any bias towards any group. Regulations need to be met no matter what your belief is. Faircloth shared that funding is being cut from Kentuckys schools, while the state is funding the build of a giant “Noahs
