The knowledge that I will learn will better assist me in providing me with the necessary trainings and conferences needed to become a professional employee of the YMCA of the Greater Houston.

Professional Knowledge and AbilitiesThe association that I chose was the Association of YMCA Professionals or also known as AYP. AYP is the professional society for YMCA staff members in the United States. As a membership organization, national in scope, it has been in existence since 1871. The Association is formally organized by 11 men on board a steamer on the Potomac River. Its first name was the Association of General Secretaries of the Young Mens Christian Association of the United States and British Provinces. This meeting also marked the first of the annual, biennial, or triennial conferences of the employed officers of the YMCA that have continued in some form uninterrupted to this day.

  • Maternal & Social Affairs(C&AS)

    Maternal & Social Affairs represents the basic functions of the YMCA. It includes the following :

    • Employment of a qualified, caring and able person as an assistant for the YMCA • Training of employees in the operation of a large organization, such as a business, industry or personal store. • Promotion of business activities in a community with high levels of employment and a small population of employed, socially qualified people from the community. • Promotion of private corporations (including corporations, trusts, associations and trusts in a number of states and foreign territories where they are operating). • Promotion of and training in private industry for the promotion of private business, such as, education, science, engineering, education, public and private health professions, education and government services, as is done in some jurisdictions.

    • ••A person’s job as an independent contractor, as defined in section 922–8 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, has the same broad protections as a contract with a private contractor. He or she may be an employee of the company on which he/she works.

    Employers cannot refuse the use of an employee’s work and may file a civil claim for failure to comply with, or deny benefits to an employee if a reasonable response by the employer would create a risk of undue hardship, which would in turn create a violation of the contract. A reasonable response by the employer to the employee’s or business’ failure to comply with an employee’s request for service with the employer on a reasonable terms. The employer may also assert any other reasonable relief which it considers necessary for the business to comply with the request.

          The Association defines as:

          AYP

          * Non-profit organization. Also referred to as a “Pledge Board”

          * AYP is the organization or group of members that has the direct participation of all employees or owners of a person or business who is not affiliated with the “Pledge Board.”

          AYP member includes a member of the “Pledge Board” such as a secretary; a stockholder, chairman, CEO, vice chairman and so on, an organizer of a large organization and a trustee of the association.

          The main purpose or purpose of AYP is to increase awareness of the importance of gender equality in modern society or perhaps to organize meetings of the most powerful and influential political and social groups in the United States.

          Many AYP members focus on a broad range of issues, including issues of social and gender equality. These include “women’s rights on the rise;” the need for education and training of women as workers; the need for a more equitable employment code; a return to basic workplace rules; social justice and worker-owned food stores and farms; the importance of women as well as men in manufacturing, service or information processing. Several “Pledge Board members” take on many other issues besides those defined by AYP.

                AYP membership

                AYPs purpose is to advance, inspire, and connect the YMCA Leader. Y professionals have the ability to participate in innovative discussions as well as network with other Y professionals. This will give me the ability to take away tangible tools and practical knowledge, providing me with a renewed professional awareness and inspiration. This will not only help me advance and grow within my career, but also within my branch, and my association.

                AYP contributes the following to increase my professional knowledge and abilities toward my career success. First AYP encourages life-long learning for their leaders. While employed with the YMCA, all professionals are sent to different trainings and conferences to stay up to date with all the new membership or non-profit skills that need to know later on in my career development. Within these trainings, they are giving me more knowledge of whats expected out of all YMCA professionals. The Association of YMCA Professionals also enhances my personal and career development, and promotes high ethical standards and Christian values.

                The Association of YMCA Professionals will give me the professional knowledge and abilities that I need to perform my job to the best of my abilities by keeping me informed
