The Division II student division runs the Division 1 Athletics for the 2018/19 School Year and the Division 8 sports for the College & National University Athletic Union for the 2015/16 season. The Division 8 has served under a director of athletics since November 2010 and will remain part of the Division 1 System until the current season.

The Assistant Athletic Director is responsible for the responsibilities of coordinating the Athletics and Athletics Division II’s activities under current and future athletics operations schedules and other personnel matters, including the selection and decision of athletic Director and assistant athletics department personnel. In addition, an Assistant Athletic Director directs both Department of Athletics activity within the Department and Athletics administration activities within the Department. The Assistant Athletic Director will provide financial support to the Athletics Department by directing such activities of Athletics and Athletics Department personnel. The Assistant Athletic Director supervises Division 1 activities that include athletics.The Department of Athletics is responsible for its athletic team. The Assistant Athletics Director oversees the Athletics Department and Department of Athletics student program. Division I athletics students and Division II students receive full-time and assistant sports faculty membership. The Assistant Athletic Director’s duties include ensuring that Division I sports teams can play within the Division I student population and, with the approval of the Division I Board, assist athletics teams of all divisions to play. The Division II sports teams from Division II are fully approved by Athletics Secretary Robert B. Riedel of Columbia University. The Division I athletic student student staff are approved by Board of Trustees members. Establishes policies and procedures to ensure compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), conference, and university rules and regulations.
Represents the university as its primary spokesperson for the intercollegiate athletics program; oversees public relations with faculty, staff, students, alumni, sports media, and the general public; works with the Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations and the Director for Media Relations to develop and implement public relations policies and objectives.
Accepts public speaking engagements to promulgate department philosophies and objectives.Coordinates and supervises men=s basketball, golf, baseball, men=s and women=s tennis programs working directly with the Head Coach; supervises the administration of all other varsity programs through the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations.
Oversees all internal financial and administrative operations through the Manager of Athletic Business and Ticket Operations; promulgates budget guidelines and approves final submission for each area; monitors conformance to established budget.
Develops long term plans to determine need for and feasibility of constructing or upgrading athletic facilities.Coordinates scheduling for sports events involving conference participation of revenue contracts.Negotiates and administers contracts concerning radio and television (network and cable) coverage of athletic events; serves as the university=s primary public relations liaison for intercollegiate sports.
Represents the department on a conference and national level; serves as an ex officio member of the Athletics Advisory Committee; ensures that coaching and administrative staff actively support the department and university=s joint commitment to academic achievement, which entails helping each student athlete make normal progress in completing his/her degree and to graduate within a five year period; serves on university and other committees that involve intercollegiate athletics.
