Title
A South African, Leader, Desmond Tutu once said, “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.” People in real life face injustice everyday, also characters in fictional novels. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, the characters who experience and witness the most injustice are Atticus Finch and Tom Robinson. Atticus response is acceptable as well as Tom Robinsons reaction.
While dealing with a difficult court case, Atticus Finch must also face Mr. Bob Ewells unacceptable behavior. Atticus must stay strong, be there for his family and himself. On one late afternoon Atticus was a leaving the post office, when he was approached by Mr. Ewell, “Atticus was leaving the post office when Mr. Ewell approached him, cursed him, spat on his face, and threaten to kill him” (Lee 248). How ever Atticus reaction was fearless because after Mr. Ewell
did all of that, Atticus simply “took out his handkerchief and wiped his face and stood there and let Mr.Ewell call him names” (Lee 249). That is one of many situations that Atticus had to face injustice. Atticus had faced a lot of injusted in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, as well as one night at The Finch home, Atticus, Jem, Scout, Aunt Alexandra, Dill, and Uncle Jake were having super. When they received a knock at the door, surprised they all were to find out that it Maycomb sheriff Heck Tate. It seemed that Heck Tate received news that a mob was coming to the courthouse to murder Tom Robinson.
