Augustus
To be the first to do something it takes a strong person with a strong personality. This was the case Augustus the emperor. He had a reputation for being up-front and ruthless to others. This is shown by the way he dominated is competitors, and why he was so successful as Rome’s first emperor.
Augustus’s first marriage was to a woman named Claudia. Their marriage is ironic because she was step daughter of Mark Antony. He and Augustus had gone through so much of their lives fighting for power and political advantages. The marriage did not last long and Augustus did not stay off the market too long, when he was 22 he married a woman named Scribonia. She in today’s age would be known as a cougar because she was much older than him. This marriage did also not last very long. Augustus was a man who did not take orders all that well and he felt as Scribonia would step on his toes at times. “The marriage was not altogether happy (Suetonius said that she nagged Augustus)”. (Augustus). Augustus like most emperors go through marriages like nothing. Augusts fell in love with another woman named Livia. Livia unlike his other wife’s was very beautiful and intellectual. She however was also married, but that was no problem for Augustus. He ordered Claudis Nero to divorce Livia immediately and by no surprise he did divorce her. The day that Augustus decided to officially divorce his second wife Scribona, she gave birth to his only child, he a girl and named her Julia. Thankfully for Augustus he did not have to go through another other divorce or marriage as he remained married to Livia until he passed away.
It is not a mistake when someone reaches the success the way Augustus did. “He was unusually handsome and exceedingly graceful at all periods of his life, though he cared nothing for personal adornment.” (Suetonius). Augustus was a great leader because he had the ability to stay calm in his expression when the situation might have been a heated one. Although he was short
