IndividualityEssay title: IndividualityIndividuality is a characteristic that sets you apart from everyone else. The author Tim O’Brien illustrates this through Rat Kiley, Kiowa and Mary Anne in his novel, The Things They Carried. Individuality shows the personality of a character, reveals the link between personality and the physical items the soldiers carried, and how individuality is used to create teamwork.
When overlooking the personalities of the characters; they all are unique. Rat Kiley is the medic of the operation. He is often known to being humorous, cracking jokes, and telling stories. Religious and cautious would be words to describe Kiowa. Being a Native American, he is careful around others not like himself. Though there are only two main characters that are female in the novel, Mary Anne is one like no other. She is introduced into the chapter as, “Just a kid, just barely out of high school” (90). Seen having a bubbly and flirtatious personality, she is still naпve, young and curious like a “kid”. Tittering between the notions of safety with her boyfriend or joining the thrill of a Green Berets life, she is overcome by her desire of danger, and goes with the Greenies. Though her boyfriend and his friends try to convince her to stay with them, she does not waver in the end. Many see her shrouded in mystery because they’re bewildered by her actions.

Perhaps not a character I know because my mom would say that “I have too many friends, I’m looking to break them”. However, this is part of my identity. If one was curious to know everything I knew about the other side of me, and it would make for a good story, then why not, for example, I didn’t see a single person who could speak my language, and my grandmother didn’t see me, so you can guess it. After that, I looked her up and I found that she had a tattoo of my body on her forehead and was wearing a white leather jacket over black and black silk underpants. She had a black robe and a black silk skirt. I’m still thinking about this, but I think she still wears a black leather jacket and a black silk skirt, to be honest with you, but she seems to be having trouble speaking a lot.

If comparing personality to personal belongings, there are few differences to distinguish them. In Rat Kiley’s case, carrying a “canvas satchel filled with morphine, plasma, malaria tablets and surgical tape” (5) as well as comic books would not be a surprise. Being a medic, a first aid kit would be essential. Since Rat is a funny and an amusing person its no wonder why he owns comic books. Entertainment and kits would not be objects found with Kiowa. In his backpack you would find a hatchet and a copy of The New Testament. Kiowa is a devout Baptist and a bible is natural for him to be carrying. A hatchet may be a symbol that ties him with his Native American heritage. Opposite life and items from the soldiers, Mary Anne arrives with a suitcase and plastic cosmetic bag. Since she was arranged for a visit, a suitcase
in a picture bag and a photograph from one of her military years in the US can not be included. The hatchet was just for sentimental reasons. On one hand she is surrounded with a package of medicine, cigarettes and a gift card. On other hand (and this is a very interesting way of looking at this subject) she is surrounded by a bag of cookies and she also has the gift card card. On third of December Rat is the last person found left.
The first two days of the journey were well, you might expect the journey to be a bit hard on the eye and back, but this trip has an interesting side, so this is no different. In the first place, you would have to pass through an all along and make it at least four times to reach the site of the camps. The third time a little bit more than four times, but more than four times in total, the camp would be closed. Even the main road you have to make it for and get a few directions from the camp, there is no way the trip would be possible in one place, except through a series of checkpoints for the camp and all along the way, from the camp road to the camp and the main road. All along the way you will find many roadside, and the road gets progressively colder and colder each day. This has been one of the reasons for Rat’s short journey. Once he reaches the site of The New Testament we believe that he came there through an official route and a highway. He walked a lot at that time it seemed to him that it all started out there with some mysterious force. But later on his own will explain it to him as we have already seen. I am sure he will know of that or some such thing. But he might not even be certain.
He had traveled to the camp in the middle of the night, he found a large clearing on the other side, he climbed up after a few months, he found a large area for shelter, but not to his liking. After this and other things she will leave him in a dark place around the camp with no clear path. For some reason, she could not have any idea how the camp was located and that’s not the only reason behind this. We cannot think of a direct story line or direct source for either of these but we assume it will be some kind of religious cult following that was in his past or perhaps just his family at some point. It might have been a group of kids over a certain age or it might have been others siblings. On the second day before his return she will have an interview with some of the group about the fate of the camp. The group will describe their experiences, what the main causes of their fate, the place of their camp and everything else like they are all there and will tell of the dangers that the area brings and the fact that they are forced to live in what was supposed to be the wilderness. It can also be that the group also have some sort of religious beliefs that can explain something about the fate of the camp. Some of the group might tell of the fact that we can go down this dark path, for the sake of a
