Automobile insurance companies charge a higher premium for those drivers who have not had a substantial amount of driving time under their belt. Why is it acceptable to allow companies to charge considerably more for an inexperienced driver? Would it matter if the new driver was forty-five years old? I am interested in investigating this matter because I am charged $500.00 more than my husband for my insurance because I am rated as an “inexperienced operator.” The charges are outrageous because they have nothing to do with my personal driving. Instead, charges are given based on statistics involving new drivers. In my opinion, my cautious driving exceeds that of many people on the road.
