POW 13: Corey the camel
Problem statement:
a. There is a camel named Corey that owns a banana plantation. There is a three thousand-banana harvest at her plantation every year. There is a market one thousand miles from Corey’s plantation. Corey need to get as many bananas as she can to market. However, she can only carry one thousand bananas at a time and she must eat one banana for every mile she walks.
b. the assignment is to find the maximum amount of bananas she can get to market.
Process:
a. At first it seemed obvious that Corey couldn’t carry any bananas but then I realized that by not walking all the way she could.
b. Because of the work I did on the mini POW I knew that the way to solve it was to change the distance she traveled before depositing the remaining load.
c. the mini POW, while it didn’t provide an answer to the main POW it showed you how to solve the main POW
d. I altered the distance until Corey stopped and dropped off bananas on her way to market until I got what seemed to be the highest possible amount of bananas that she could sell.
e. All work was done on a calculator and in my head so there are no diagrams or sketches.
f. no real problems, I knew that I had the right way to solve it it was just really hard.
g. no assistance was provided.
Solution:
a. she starts the trip carrying 1000 bananas, she travels 200 miles, she is now carrying 800 –she leaves 600 at 200 mile point, and keeps 200 for 200 mile trip back, she picks up another 1000, travels 200 miles, she is now carrying 800, she picks up 200 from stashed, she now carries 1000 and has 400 more stashed, she travels an additional
