Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga is considered as the turning point of the American Revolution . It was fought in the late 1777 . The Battle of Saratoga consisted of two battles : The Battle of Freeman’s Farm ( September 19 ) and The Battle of Bemis Heights ( October 07 ) . This battle helped gaining support of the French for the Continental Army by proving that the weaker and untrained American forces were strong enough to overpower the British forces . This battle also helped gaining the interest and support of some of the European powers in the cause of the Americans .

British General John Burgoyne planned an advance of three columns to meet in Albany , New York . He moved along the southward crossing the Hudson river . General Barry St. Leger with second column moved eastward from Canada along the Mohawk River . General Howe with the third column was to march from Virginia . The main aim of this plan was to destroy the American forces of New England .

The first Battle of Freeman’s Farm :
This battle took place on September 19 , 1777 . General John Burgoyne and his army had started to move southward but were stopped by the American troops under the control of General Horatio Gates . The battle took place in the farm of John Freeman ( a loyalist ) .A militia of sharpshooters from Virgina harassed the British , while other troops charged into battle with them . The american troops fought very bravely and were overpowering the British army . Burgoyne lost two men for every one rebel but the German Hessian forces under Riedesel
