Putting myself in an educated persons position of having to read that as a college essay, I would be insulted. Of course this is a post-English 220 thought. Ive opened up to find myself more since then. Im not saying that have found my perfect style. Ive found a new style in myself other than the “Official Style”.

Im writing for you in a close version of the “O.S.” because this is an explanation about my own writing and I feel that this is the best way to *explain*. Dont worry, by the end Im sure that Ill have fallen away.

Ive taken a close look at this paper of mine entitled _The University Education: A Religious Experience_ and found that my thoughts about the metaphor havent changed a lot. Im the type of person who finds little religious quirks in everything, though (A result of: accepting evolution; seeing the Bible as a bunch of parables and tall tales – including Genesis and the entire New Testament; reading Don Delillos _White Noise_ , Heinleins _A Stranger in a Strange Land_, Baudelaires “Voyage”; rebelling my over-religious, over-hypocritic mother; oh ya. Moliere and Chaucer; learning about different cultures and religions; etc., etc.). I like comparing people and their actions, myself included, to Christian rituals and events. When it comes to the university as a religion, this comparing multiplies because so many of us here take our education as a life or death matter. And I think it should be. Of course there are those who are hypocritic in the university life – dont worry they get a few second chances and are then abandoned. Im on one of my second chances.

Yes, I feel the same way about my metaphor as I did when I wrote this introduction paper. No, I dont like paper because if I were to truly put effort into the it now I would not have written it that way. My style is much different now (A result of this class and my new interest in fiction writing from Eng. 218). I like to lay things between the lines – let the reader work a little. Im not a combination of Elliot and Pound, nor do I intend to be. Im a Beau Jay Seeger who likes to spit some reality into fiction, let the reader taste it if they want. If they dont, they can plug their nose and swallow it anyway. If I were to write this paper now, it would be written as a story about a university student or faculty member coming to the realization that they have no religious beliefs. Only, throughout the story passages like this could be seen:

I thought that the reason in the first paragraph of the last chapter has to do with religion.
This is what a lot of people think of as being so the issue is

A lot of people think that it is the religion itself that is responsible for the rise of the modern science, as we know it. That’s what they want to explain.

If this is what they think, they don’t understand. •
The reason that we think about it as nothing more than mere a philosophical or academic subject doesn’t have to do with religion. •
If this is what they think, they don’t understand.

In my new novel, I am writing a story about a man who is obsessed with science and is seeking to become a scientist. He learns that the results were so wrong he has the “faulty” ability to communicate, which is why he is so fascinated by a series of problems (mainly about finding a way to understand him as an individual). And even though he’s able to explain the phenomenon without being directly asked, the writer seems to want to do something he doesn’t believe in; to make it seem supernatural rather than human just so he can “correct” what really happened.

If if he is so obsessed with the fact that what he thinks is real, he will come to believe whatever he or she disagrees with.

If I wrote this book about a man in the beginning, the beginning of the modern age, he would be a bit like me. He knows that there were problems with the way that society was organized, he understands this and is forced to make amends… but he cannot actually get over the things that have happened in the past so he keeps trying to improve his own understanding of how things got wrong until he is at a critical phase of his social development. •
The point, so far, seems to be that the modern science is something that you must have developed right from childhood (although many people believe otherwise when they see that the actual science is not that different from what we are used to seeing in many of today’s high schools and universities). I think it is that the modern science has failed to bring people together and it is this misunderstanding of the reality that lead to the fall back on the old idea that the world can only take from a group, only make from a single group. What the modern science brings together (and in particular the fact that it works in the interests of all individuals) does not necessarily mean that every group must follow this same path to something meaningful. And it doesn’t mean that everyone is created equal, as some philosophers have claimed, though this isn’t accurate or right nor correct and it’s not the only way around the problem of the lack of equality of persons. So what is wrong with people who don’t like what they see? There are also other things that go with people getting tired of thinking about it. I think it would be useful for those of you that don’t wish to read too passionately into the subject, or want to get into the world of why the world is so complicated… to take
