I watched the television show Americas Next Top Model. The lady who hosts the show is Tyra Banks, and she is a famous model. On the show the girls compete with each other to see who will be a model. The girls wear different types of clothes, makeup and costumes and are photographed by professional model photographers. They also are in made up commercials and advertisements to see who would look the best in them. They walk down a runway to see who would look the best for the people watching them as they model types of fashions. At the end of the show they are all evaluated by the judges and. The one who is not the best gets eliminated and the show continues until there is only one left, who becomes the top model.
The way women are portrayed in this show is as objects to just be looked at. They are criticized if they are not pretty enough or do not look as good in their clothes on the runway as the other girls. It makes me feel as if you are not as pretty or smile as nicely or do your hair as good as the next girl. If judged not to be, then you will not be as popular as they are and considered a failure. Another thing, all the girls are really skinny and weak looking. This show, and basically all the media is saying that you cant be a beautiful model unless you are thin and look helpless and defenseless.
This show does not relate to my everyday life because looking good and perfect all the time is not something that my life revolves around. I have many things that I care about and it seems as if those girls only care about how skinny they are and how pretty they look so that other people can admire them on television or in a magazine. And being judged by someone would make me feel angry, because if someone would tell me I wasnt pretty or thin, I would tell them that is not the most important thing in the world and still be proud of myself.
