In recent years, crime rate have gone up dramatically in big cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or Hai Phong. In this respect, there are numerous reasons, but the most important things are the migrations from rural areas and the development of the media in big cities.
The first reason why crime rates are increasing in big cities is certainly the migrations from rural areas. Many people move to big cities to search for a better life. Most of them consider the cities as paradises. However, if you want a better life, you must have a better job, which most migrators cannot manage due to lack of education. If they received enough education, they would find a good job in their own towns and have no reason to migrate. Thus, most migrators has have unstable jobs. Big cities are not paradises or heavens as they thought. They have to struggle harder and harder for a living. Most of them cannot go back as they have nothing left in their country. They accept to do anything, even commit crimes to survive. They can think of almost nothing but money. Education brings about values of life, but education is a luxury to those who are struggling for a living like them. If they come from good families, they may receive education and moral lessons from family traditions and accept their hard, poor but pure life. If they do not, they are more likely to become criminals. Secondly, the fast development of the media in big cities, especially the Internet, is found guilty. Nobody can deny the benefits the media bring about. They make everybody closer and closer. They provide us with any kinds of information, good or bad alike. One can learn how to produce and sell French fries to passengers as well as how to kill people quickly or how to rob a bank easily and lively through the Internet. One can even find and join a criminal band easily. Also, the Internet itself is a mean for criminals to hack, to steal money or to cheat people. Additionally, online games affect young people a lot. Most of them these games are violent and young people may learn violence from them.
It can be concluded that big migrations and fast development of media can be regarded as two of the major causes of increasing crimes in big cities. As far as I am concerned, the government should show great determination to solve this issue. The most important policy should be to provide better education and turn the media to become a means of education rather than a means for criminals. (437 words)
