Overview of the Food & Beverage Industry
1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 OVERVIEW OF THE FOOD & BEVERAGE INDUSTRY In the vastly moving industries in the world, food and beverage industry have taken its place as an emerging industry as it develops day by day into one of the most important and needed industry in the economy. Every now and then, we can see there’s a new food and beverage company booming up no matter whether its small, medium or large scale. There’s also a very big change in the patterns of consumers when it comes to food and beverage. Moreover, there’s a lot of support and consumption from the consumers that also indirectly have contributed to the industries to offer various different types of food and beverage to suit their taste buds and also assist the consumers with pre-packed and instant foods for the ease of the busy consumers. We have chosen the food and beverage industry to perform an analysis on the financial part of the companies in this industry. There are three companies studied in this project which are the famous companies in the food and beverage industry in Malaysia. The three companies are Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad and Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd which is well known with the name F&N. 1.2 COMPANY’S BACKGROUND 1.2.1 NESTLE (MALAYSIA) BERHAD
Being one of the world’s largest company in food and beverage industry, Nestle is a multinational company who the founder was Heinrich Nestle in the year 1866 was started in Vevey, Switzerland. In the year 1912, Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad was established in Malaysia as Angle-Swiss Condensed Milk Company which is currently head quartered in Petaling Jaya. Nestle is a manufacturing company that producers well-known brands such as Maggi, Nescafe, Milo, Kit Kat, Nesvita (Nestum) and also inclusive of pet products such as Purina and Friskies. Other than that, Nestle also prodFuces baby milk product (Nestle Neslac Excella Gold). Nestle is producing food and beverages with better quality to their consumers to satisfy them and is also taking great efforts to achieve its vision to be the leader in nutrition, health and wellness company. 1.2.2 DUTCH LADY MILK INDUSTRIES BERHADSince 1950s, Dutch Lady Malaysia which was previously under Royal FrieslandFoods, started off their manufacturing business in Malaysia. This company was incorporated in 1963 with a joint-stock limited company called Pacific Milk Industries (Malaya) Sdn Bhd. Currently, Dutch lady Malaysia has become a subsidiary of FrieslandCampina which was from the merging of FrieslandFoods and Campina in 2008. Dutch Lady’s factory is located in Petaling Jaya.
