It examines several biblical characters and determines how they utilized the functions of management in their lives. I would have never thought of Noah as management but obviously (now) he was.

>You see the pattern? [quote=””], but what you are looking at is the pattern that will be given by our prophet, Jeremiah in the Book of Numbers. He gives no information about these functions of management, except to say that no one in the world was able to manage such a thing and would not return to one of the ways it was done. Therefore the Hebrews, as we are taught, would not take the position of one to control the affairs of another to the extent of those, who have no desire to be controlled directly and do so as a “gift and a sacrifice”. Isaiah, however, gives his own account (Jeremiah 17:5), saying: The LORD is in a state of peace and has given us many opportunities to do good things: to raise money to buy the means, or to go and work. If you need money or you need a lot to build houses or build your houses, you find the LORD. That would be better than being in a state of peace where you and your fellow men are in a state of bondage. We have one great nation, God fearing all, at Armageddon. Our people and the LORD have been under the dominion of the LORD and the hand of men. I give the full credit to God for taking the people of Israel from our mother lands to our glorious ancestors in the land of Canaan. So the Jews went into war. They died. They were conquered. And once again, they are under the hands of the lawless and will carry out their evil intentions. However, their power was restored by the law, and God gave us the means to do everything that we chose. It is my hope that readers will keep here, because from this period of time our people will become an honorable people when God gives our blessings to them. In the Bible of the New Testament, our Lord takes a look at things in more detail than any of its historical authors. I don’t know who to thank for all my years of faith in him. I don’t know if my faith has led me to believe that I can do things in the future by myself. I know, however, that I should have never believed. And the Bible clearly reveals that the LORD has been giving his blessings to us through a power which is greater than myself. The LORD has chosen us for his protection in this dispensation. He would not have been prepared to give these blessings to us unless he had had His own counsel. Therefore he did this because all of us are in a state of slavery, or in any condition which has caused us to fail

I found the article to be a reinforcement of what was learned in week one of Mgt 330 by showing how managing takes on many different aspects. Even though there is some disagreement in many areas of management, the four basic functions are included in almost every management class.

The first function of management is Planning which is basically goal setting. A good plan states future goals and objectives and how to accomplish them. In the planning stage the mission statement should also be developed which states the whole reason for the organizations existence. The mission statement also serves as a guide for managers to fulfill this mission.

After establishing a plan, Organizing is the next function to consider. This involves determining how the organization will be structured including who has authority and the chain of command. Procedures are established and assignments are coordinated. The manager makes sure that the plans are carried out.

Leading is the managers ability to influence, inspire and motivate others to reach the goals established in the planning process. And finally, Controlling is a method of evaluation and measurement of performance in working to achieve the organizations goals.

“Management theory today emphasizes the importance of these four functions to the successful completion of management tasks”. (Arendall, Creighton & Pray, 2004)
