Where might be the best workplace for women?
Nowadays, “Gender” still remains a big issue in our world. It is one of the worldwide issues lies ahead that we have been trying so long to improve, eradicate the problem of it to reach sustainability. However, compared with other important issues like poverty, primary education, and environmental sustainability, it seems that gender issue is considered as a minor problem at our society. Actually, this issue can trigger other problems that are more severe than we can image and this kind of issue isnt easier to be solved since it has a strong link with the cultural. People may think that there is almost no need to discuss this issue in several countries which are regarded more “developed “and “civilized”. This true that in some countries, men and women do have same right to vote, same access to education etc. However, when we observe carefully the workplaces in those countries, we can find easily that the discrimination of gender still happens so often in several different forms. In general, women are suffering this kind of unbalance of gender at workplaces no matter where they are.
So, in this world, which gender discrimination generally exists, is there a workplace that treat their female employees relatively equally? where might be the best workplace for women?
The answer may surprise many people: Yes, there is one- McDonalds.
In these two years, McDonalds has been named as “The best company for women” by American Chamber of Commerce, as “Working moms best company for hourly worker” and “Top Companies for Multicultural Women” by Working Mother magazine.
Speaking of McDonalds, lots of issues might come to our mind such as problem of oil used, controversy of genetically modified ingredients, project of donation for the relief fund etc. However, we would never associate , McDonalds with any gender issue, not to mention to imagine that McDonalds could once be the winner of this kind of award for several times.
Much to our surprise, the company has been making efforts on promoting the female employees status at the workplace and at the society for about a decade. Actually, more than 60 percent of McDonalds customers are female, consequently, the company promotes multicultural and cultivate more and more female managers with intention of building up better perceived image for their majority of customers.
Beside the rules about basic equality between male and female employees, there are quite many policies and program which support the working women in McDonalds company. For example, they provide career development classes to female managers and create a “Women Leadership network” which allows those female leaders to exchange opinions, share experiences
