Biology Lab                                                Macromolecules                                              The three major classes of large biological molecules, called macromolecules which are simple sugars. Here’s the simplest forms of macromolecules Carbohydrates, Nucleic acids, and Protons. Usually carbohydrates contain only oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen. Monosaccharides are the simplest form of a carbohydrate molecule. Glucose is one of an important monosaccharide, known as the Photosynthesis end product in plants. As well producing the molecule ATP, which is energy. Other important monosaccharide that are common are fructose, galactose, and ribose.

Then we have double sugars called disaccharides. Disaccharides are two monosaccharides as described above. The two simple monosaccharides are linked together to create a Disaccharides. Like, two glucose molecule creates a maltose.     Polysaccharide is another form of a carbohydrate it’s basically a long chain linked together with monosaccharide subunits. An example of a polysaccharide is starch which is an abundant component of plants. In Photosynthesis starch is a plants way of storing glucose. When we consume food that are starch it’s called food reserves that plants store for its own use. Glucose in glycogen is what animal store that is a form of a polysaccharide. A third way in a polysaccharide is cellulose which are bonded glucose subunits.
