When someone is diagnosed with diabetes, they are changed forever. All of their normal eating habits are ruined and they will always have to be aware of what they eat. There are around 300 million diabetics and the number just keeps growing. Since more and more people are coming aware of this disease, more attention has been brought to stopping it. There are two types of diabetes; type I and type II. Type I is one that is passed through family genes and is much, much harder to prevent. Were as type II develops because of a lifestyle choice. The main number of people that have type II diabetes are people that have been or are obese and have made bad food decisions throughout there life. When people have diabetes their pancreas creates too much insulin and then burns up and wont make anymore. Insulin is vital to regulate blood sugar. Diabetes can have the affect of poor blood circulation. This can lead to a poor ability to clot and increased change to suffer from infections. In severe cases the lack of blood flow could contribute to a damaging of the retina, which leads to blindness! When the high blood sugar damages large blood vessels then there is an even more serious risk of heart attacks or stoke. Type II diabetes can be prevented by maintaining a healthy diet.

When a large random group of normal people were studied, obese people were found to be more likely to suffer from diabetes. Of these people whom were studied, 522 obese people were studied extra carefully. they wanted to see that if an obese person changed their eating habits and became a healthier person, if they would be at less of a risk of having diabetes. Fifty-eight percent of them were shown to have a significant reduction of a risk of diabetes. That means 303 people out of that group had shown a significant decrease.
